Default Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Director's Cut (4K-UHD)

source:
http://thedigitalbits.com/columns/my...ts/071919-0900

But the best news to come out of it is that Director’s Edition producer David C. Fein was on hand and announced during the panel that he and his remastering team are officially in discussions with Paramount about FINALLY bringing the Director’s Edition to Blu-ray and 4K in a proper upgraded remaster. More importantly, he was given permission to say this, which I think we can all take as a good sign. Naturally, the room erupted with excitement.

Now, nothing is 100% so you guys all need to be patient. I will have more to say about this next week for reasons I’ll be able to better explain then.

But... the best thing all of you can do, if you want Robert Wise’s finished and preferred version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture to be released on Blu-ray and 4K, is to go on your social media feeds and spread the word. Show your excitement! Tag #StarTrek #TMPDE4K @ParamountMovies. Let the world know that you’re thrilled about this, that you want it to happen, and MOST IMPORTANTLY that you’ll buy it! That you’ll pre-order it the MOMENT it gets announced and goes up for sale. None of this, “Great, now I’ll wait until Black Friday to get it for $10!” Nope. Uh-uh, you’ve gotta put your money where your heart is on this one. Because if they put it out, and you guys all buy it, more (and better) Blu-ray and 4K product for the classic TOS and TNG movies could follow.

All right, there it is. Go forth, Trekkers, and let the world (and most importantly, @ParamountMovies) that you want this to happen!

Stay tuned...

Best news I read all day. While I enjoy the theatrical cut this is one film where the Director's Cut adds a lot for the better, IMO. The Spock tear scene should have been in from the beginning.

Sweet.

Really though - the entire Star Trek film universe needs to be UHD, it would be ridiculous for it not to be. I don't expect the TV series, but the films? Come on. But it's nice to hear directors cuts should also be available in 4K for at least the 1st two films (Wrath of Kahn DC not yet on UHD, but has been 4K ready for awhile - though not sure about an HDR grade).

I don't believe I've seen the directors cut of any of the original crew Star Trek films, as I've actually never owned any of them on home video.

HDR grade was done at the same time according to Nicholas Meyer.

Whilst I agree that Digital Bits info is often a little, erm, economical with actual facts, the fact that it was all said during a panel by the DE Producer David Fein, means that the source is wholly credible, and I, for one, cannot wait for TMP in 4K

Right, ‘cause he’s gonna misreport a public convention panel.

I know your distaste for Bill Hunt knows no bounds, but really... get some bounds.

This is very, very exciting news but it would be absolutely thrilling if we were talking about a full remastering of the entire film series. These films desperately need it and Star Trek is arguably Paramount’s biggest and most valuable asset. It’s crazy that they would need to be swayed via social media posts to give these things proper 4K restorations.

That is awesome news. The original Star Trek motion picture is one of my favorites and it will be great to have the Director’s Cut in 4K. It’s about time!

Not sure but I remember reading years ago the visual effects had to be redone or something, so the film could be transferred to high-definition. I'm definitely in for the 4K.

Default Star Trek The Motion Picture Directors Edition potential 4k

Just read this report from San Diego Comic Con, where a member of the team that worked on the first DVD release reveals his team are in talks to release the film in 4k

https://trekmovie.com/2019/07/19/par...ctors-edition/

The Motion Picture is possibly my all time favourite journey, so I am quite excited by this news.

I'm someone who actually LIKES the theatrical cut of TMP - yes, you read that right - so if we do get a remaster of the DE then I hope they do the original version at the same time, it won't need as much work after all and most of it forms the basis of the DE anyway.
