Hong Kong Sammy's Great Escape AKA A Turtle's Tale 2 3D Blu-ray (2012) [Region Locked / Free]

aka Sammy's Adventures 2 aka Sammy 2

The US, UK, Australian, Hong Kong and Candian releases all include English audio and are region locked. The only confirmed English-friendly region free release is the Belgian release from Belga films. Editions from other non-English speaking countries do not include English audio or subtitles.

Region A: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Sammy...Blu-ray/62505/
Region B: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Sammy...Blu-ray/73232/

Original post:
http://www.amazon.fr/Sammy-Blu-ray-3...4414820&sr=8-2

I'm trying to locate an english version of this movie but so far I can only find a trailer on youtube.

Cool. Thanks for posting this.

The studio needs to get Sammy 3D I and Sammy 3D Turtle 2 over here in the US. I see the 2D version at Target, but won't buy the movie until it's in 3D $24 and under. 36$ is too high to import a movie.

you're partially right, it's too high to import a lousy movie.

It's worth every penny if it's something that you really enjoy, are planning on multiple viewings, and have no other options. The wife & I thoroughly enjoy the first one and my Vudu HDX download didn't offer subtitles, so importing the HK Blu was a no-brainer.
We don't go to movie theaters at all any more, so it's easy to justify the cost when most folks spend more than $36 each time they go out to see a movie and have nothing but a memory to show for wasting their money on something they don't physically own like a Blu-ray.

I'd love to see a sequel to Sammy's first adventure and I wouldn't hesitate to import it also if there wasn't a U.S. release.

Looks like this is being released on Blu-ray in France on 15 December 2012 along with a Sammy 1 & 2 box set. Sammy 2 hasn't even had a theatrical release yet in the US; did Sammy 1 even get released theatrically in the US?

No, direct to video, excluding 3D.

It is available in China somewhere according to the version I saw

It's the only place I could find an english version, though Sammy and his pal seem to have somehow changed race as they passed the African region....

I wonder if the studio knows there's a demand to get the Sammy 1 and 2 3D pack over here in the US on sale? Maybe they do, but are waiting on it...

Glad to hear the 3D in Sammy 2 is just as strong.

If Sammy 1 3D went to 24$, I'd buy it. But it's been over a year about, and it's still over 30 bucks on import.

For those who have Sammy Turtle 3D 1, I hear it's the strongest 3D animated movie around, but is it something most new 3D fans would be able to watch comfortably compared to a more tame but strong 3D film like Madagascar 3D, Rise of the Guardians 3D, or Open Season 3D? Thanks.

I only rented it, but I think it depends on the individual. If the person is prone to 3D headaches, Sammy could definitely give them one. The depth is very strong, convergence is very high, and pop-outs are extreme. The upside to this situation is that the film is only 88 min, and you can rent it cheap on Vudu.

I wouldn't say headaches, but it is a little disorientating, as it is VERY strong. I found 1 worse as there are a lot of foreground objects in the scenes that protrude from the screen and extreme depth. In 2 there isn't a single scene where there isn't a character 'out' of the screen delivering dialogue, but its not as disorientating as its not foreground items, just the characters.

Weirdly I get headaches with passive 3D in the cinema and my 3DS (though i suspect that is more from squinting at the tiny screen) but not from my active projector set up.

rdodolak said "Looks like this is being released on Blu-ray in France on 15 December 2012 along with a Sammy 1 & 2 box set", but I think the box rdodolak was talking about is not a blu ray box set but the dvd box set at http://www.amazon.fr/Coffret-Sammy-1...dp/B008UU4M24/ ...Sammy 2 is being released as its own 3D blu-ray the same day, at http://www.amazon.fr/Sammy-Blu-ray-3D-DVD/dp/B008UU4LSE but it's a region B blu-ray so if you're from Canada, you won't be able to play it unless you have a region-free player. The only region A 3D blu ray of Sammy 1 is the one from Hong Kong, cheapest price I know is at http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_d...roductID=12014 ($31.41 + around $4 for shipping)

And it's been two years since the Cult of Sammy started applying for tax-free status , back when we were all stuck in our Avatar dreams of Depth, and were looking for someone to show us The 3-D Way.

But now that Dreamworks is fanatically trying to "outdo" every other 3D CGI movie at the theater by selling their 3D, I have to re-examine the question and ask straight out: What's Sammy 1 got that Puss in Boots ain't got? (I'm assuming that doesn't include "Compelling storyline" or "Rich characterization".)
DW is starting to pick up the slack in leading the way for 3D usage, to the point that we almost don't even need the danged turtles anymore, and if the German guy ever comes to work here, I have a feeling we already know what studio picked up his paycheck.

Well, the main characters are popping out of the screen through the majority of the movie (basically all the underwater scenes), does any Dreamworks movie do the same? I don't think this would really even make sense for characters that weren't underwater or flying, since you don't want to have the ground or the character's torso being popped-out but then cut off by the bottom of the screen. It's too bad Pixar isn't more ambitious with 3D, they could have done Finding Nemo this way...

Although Madagascar 3 comes close to Sammys in poppouts, Sammy-1 is still the king of 3d where the movie pretty much happens in your living room.

Other movies which can exploit this is space themed movies like Walle or Finding Nemo, but Pixar is to 3D as Sammy is to story.....they suck.

Seen it yesterday. Definetely as strong 3d as the first if not better. These guys should be snapped up by the major studios as this is how 3d should be done. A fun thrill ride. Well done.

Unless you've actually seen it, you can't really compare it to anything else. It's almost a totally different style of 3D to what anyone else does. Yes Dreamworks have hit a few major home runs, but still nothing they have done compares to Sammy.

Yes Madagascar 3 has a TON of popouts and some great depth in a few scenes, but it still really doesn't compare to Sammy as a whole. Sammy 1 is letdown by a number of factors. A lacklustre story (some would even call offensive depending on your personal beliefs on the main issues discussed in the film) and characters and animation that's a few years behind the best in the world. I also believe that most cuts of the film is different in different territories which also doesn't help. But the second one remedies that with better characters and a more contained, normal, non political storyline.

Personally I think Dreamworks have really picked up their game in the last few years. The films have improved immensely since the terrible Shrek's etc and their last few have whipped the pants off anything that Pixar have been able to crap out since Wall E. In fact I would go as far as to say that Pixar has completely lost the plot with its last few films, they have been absolutely dreadful!
