Does anyone own this title? Trailer looked pretty good so I decided to buy it. Probably won't get around to watching till next week, though. I had read reviews of English subs not working, but I still decided to chance it since I'm a Lovecraft fan.

I have it. It's a good adaptation, but the low budget really shows.

Excellent Lovecraft adaptation. It's odd that, at least according to this website, the U.S. release is 1080i while the german release that I bought either from the director's website (or maybe it was thru the H.P. Lovecraft's Society's website, I can't recall) is 720p. The bonus features are exactly the same although the title on the german release case is Die Farbe (the colour)

Of course also check out the Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer in Darkness by the HPL Society, great movies

Also for those interested, looks like the director is working on a new Lovecraft movie called The Dreamlands. http://www.the-dreamlands.com

I didn't notice until yesterday that there is a 6 min trailer for it on the U.S. disc.

I just watched this film and enjoyed it although I could have done without the wraparound. I definitely would be interested in seeing his next one.

Anyone else have a problem playing this disc? When I hit the play film button it just freezes.

Do the subtitles work properly on the German version? i.e. no English subs for English parts, English subs for german parts?

Yeah subs work that way on the German version. People looking for SDH subs are out of luck with that one.
Back in 2011 I had an e-mail chat with the director in which he talked about why the German disc is 720p (the native res of the film):
Quote:
Our camera, the self-constructed DRAKE of a friend of us, does only create 720p images, but they got a special cinema like look, that only that camera can create.
It is not too important to have many pixels, you know, it is far more important to have good lenses, good lighting, etc.
That's why many older photo cameras make better pictures than those cheap new ones with I don't know how many megapixels.

Though this is still a small independent film production, so don't expect perfect images. But rest assured: Our 720p looks really good even on a big monitor.

Is the US version on a regular Blu-ray disc? I bought the German version which is on a BD-R a few years ago and want to upgrade to a real disc.

Yes, the U.S. disc is a pressed disc instead of a BD-R

For anybody still wondering, the US version of this is in 720p. The menu displays in 1080i, however, when you start the film it switches over to 720p.

The English subtitles seem to be for the entire film, even the parts in English.

It has a reversible cover, the only difference between them being the spelling of Color/Colour in the title.

It's also on a pressed disc.

I bought the German release from the filmmaker when it was released. I think it is one of the better/best independent HP Lovecraft adaptations. I was hoping the director had done another film since, but I couldn't find anything. He is correct about the lenses. Some lenses cost more than pro cameras. I dont mind that it's burned. At the time I bought it, nobody could predict if another edition was in the works.
Another adaptation that I liked was Cool Air. It may be a bit slow, but I enjoyed it. The Night Gallery version of that story is the best though.

Does anyone know if the director has done anything else since? It seems I got that so long ago.

Does the US blu-ray disc have only stereo audio? The German digipack I ordered direct from the director's online store has both 5.1 and 2.0 options, as does the DVD available through the HPLHS store.

The back of the case only mentions a 5.1 track, and there is only one track on the disc labeled "English". I don't currently have a receiver to be able to test whether it's actually 5.1 or 2.0.

I just bought the German release on Amazon and since a few of you guys have that one too I have a few questions. Does anyone else have an issue with the main menu not popping up until about 25 seconds passed? Maybe it's because it's a BD-R. Also, the movie seems to run at 60 fps. Is that the way it's supposed to be?

Also, the making-of featurette doesn't seem to play properly for me. It's like it's sped up. Does anyone else have that problem?
