USA Confucius (FUNimation) - Released 3/27/12

The compelling biography of the Great Sage set in the chaotic and decadent world of the warring states during the Spring and Autumn Period, the film focuses on the turbulent later years of Confucius's life, specifically from his appointment to political office at 51 to his death at 73, and all the dramatic stories in between.

The site is quoted on the front cover, but Jeff is the one who reviewed it. I'm curious where the quote comes from.

I think that quote came from the UK edition review. Dr. Svet usually reviews most of the imported titles.

Just got the bluray and watched it last night. The review in OP is accurate.

1. It is a biography but starts at Confucius in 50s.
2. It is largely anecdotal episodes sewn together.
3. Obvious CG battles and backdrops are rather off-putting.
4. Does show Confucius' talents being underappreciated in the 'warring' states. This is the period of many smaller nations in China where each nation is in contention/alliance with one another with constant skirmishes. Confucius attempts to bring some stability and peace through ethics, decency, and respect for work & responsibility... but of course no one cares because everyone is interested in self promotion/preservation.
5. Unusual combination of camera work & scenery feels bizarre and inconsistent. Scenes simply do not flow well.
6. Chow Yun Fat's acting really does save the movie.
7. Infinitely more watchable than the more recent 'Shadow'.

Overall, I appreciated the effort and the historical aspect of the movie. The beginning of the movie was beautiful but soon gets bogged down with jerky pace. 2 hrs seem short to do any justice to biography of Confucius.
