I've seen a few. I Am Omega, the I Am Legend knockoff with Mark Dacoscos, was decent. Monster, the Cloverfield wannabe, is sooo dull and bad.

What is the point in watching this crap?

Just to know if it's as bad as you think it'll be?

And it always is, right?

It's always good for a laugh. LOL

And there's always the occasional one that manages to actually be a decent watch like Android Cop.

I watch many Asylum movies. Few break past 2 stars for me though.
I recently picked up a Blu copy of Three Musketeers and DVD copies of Sinbad: War of the Furries and Wingmen (Top Gunner) from a local store.

I think the one mockbuster I thought was kind of decent was The Day the Earth Stopped. But honestly, I don't remember much about it.

Kind of disappointed that the US DVD release for their Morbius mockbuster, Dracula the Original Living Vampire, was cancelled. I wonder why.

Probably due to the release date of Morbius being moved again from a January date. Asylum was probably like "to heck with it".

The DVD was supposed to come out October 2022, well after Morbius was released. Amazon had pre-orders for a little while.
Maybe Sony couldn't stand the idea of the mockbuster being better than their own film.

Dragon reminded me of Lord of the Rings

And apparently Dune Drifter was a good film

You mean this?

If so then that wasn't from The Asylum.

This was their Dune mockbuster:

I bet Morbius looks like a Best Picture nominee compared to the Asylum rip off.

Does Sinbad land on an island where people have orgies dressed like animals?

"It's Dracin' time" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

A job's a job, so you can't fault anyone for taking work where they can doing what they love, especially since this will likely be where they peak. But the people running the studio just seem so shameless and slimy. One of their new releases is titled Attack on Titan.

Couldn't be worse than the actual AOT movies lol.

But yeah, they are shameless AF. Just look at the text they had for the credits of King Of The Lost World:

"The events, characters, and firms depicted in this photoplay are fictitious. Really. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or acual events is purely coincidental, and very weird. We suggest moving, and/or staying away from planes headed to a Bermuda Triangle-esque area.

No giant apes or dragons were hurt during the production of this screenplay. Maybe some giant scorpions got mad, but that's about it.

Why are you still reading this? Go back to the video store and rent another Asylum film. You know you want to."

I don't watch their "Mockbusters", but their slasher movie rip-offs are usually fun, because... well, they're just more slasher movies.

My favorites are Detour and When A Killer Calls.

The Hitchhiker and Hillside Cannibals are watchable enough.

I remember Halloween Night being pretty bad.

Asylum's best movie is an original: Stuart Gordon's King Of The Ants.

I doubt they think they're actually fooling anyone. The thought process was probably "wouldn't it be funny if we use this title?". At the most, the trailer will get a few more clicks on Youtube out of the momentary confusion.

In their early days there may have been some shameless moments. War of the Worlds was a big hit for them, and it most likely was from people confusing it for the Tom Cruise film. Plus if you're going to call a movie "Titanic II".... and yeah, I actually know someone who was tricked into watching that film on Netflix.

Now they've grown a brand around shameless mockbusters that it's not really about tricking people anymore. It's just part of the joke. I just wish there was a better punchline. Made for Syfy films are a guilty pleasure for me, so many are just fun. But with the Asylum, their films end up being boring most of the time. Sometimes they have crazy concepts but the execution and characters are so dry. It would be nice if they would put a little more effort into them.

Hercules Reborn, Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, Android Cop, and Hansel And Gretel 2013 are probably the only ones that best fit that.

Cop in particular I found to be a fun throw back to those cheapo Italian knock-off apocalypse action flicks.

This isn't a mockbuster (unless you think of it as Destroy All Monsters) but Asylum just announced possibly one of their most insane ideas yet - a epic crossover of many of their monsters from their movies, including Mega Shark, Atlantic Rim, Crocosaurus, and even Sharknado.

I am so effing there for it.

I guess they didn't want to wait for the Monsterverse revamp of King Kong Escapes.

I wonder if they'll try to make another Allan Quatermain movie to coincide with Indiana Jones. Allan Quatermain and the Temple of Destiny. Allan Quatermain and the Crusade of Destiny. Allan Quatermain and the Kingdom of Destiny.
