I saw a Sixteen Candles Blu-ray at my local Target a few weeks ago but it was in one of those ugly brown clamshell VHS style cases so I had to pass. I might pick this up when available.

Probably just a repackage with an MA digital copy.

It says Limited Edition, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's a little more elaborate, perhaps coming with some physical item. BUt otherwise, I'm sure it's the same disc. I still think Criterion plans to release it eventually.

I think your right. Over the years I've learned not to expect much for re-released Universal catalog titles. Especially if they are not part of a new collection. Hopefully this just comes with a pack of birthday candles or something and Criterion releases a version with a fresh scan and some newer features.

Was there any solid evidence that Criterion was handling this and Ferris Bueller's Day Off or were people just hoping they'd do these after they did The Breakfast Club? It's easy for information to snowball out of control after people get worked up over something. I don't own any version of Sixteen Candles but I'd like to add it to my collection. If the Criterion "rumors" are true I'll wait for that.

The Criterion new year’s picture at the beginning of 2017 had sixteen candles:

Around Christmas of 2017, actor John Kapelos said Criterion approached him about deleted scenes of his from Ferris Bueller that they had acquired for what was supposed to be a 2018 release of the film. I'm not sure why it's taking so long to get that one off the ground.

John Kapelos says he was interviewered by Criterion who was given his Ferris Bueller’s Day Off deleted scene by the Hughes’ family:

Sixteen Candles was confirmed in Criterion's 2017 New Years drawing.

Around December of 2016, there was a photo of work being done on the transfer of 16 Candles posted on Lee Kline's (now private) instagram account.

I’d like to see Paramount or a boutique label finally release Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful on Blu-ray.

I'd kill for a new transfer from Universal without it being slathered in DNA, but that seems as likely as an interview with Michael Schoeffling. Fingers crossed, though.

Best typo ever

Never seen that deleted scene from Sixteen Candles. I wonder how much "deleted" footage there is.

I hope not.. There are a few other Hughes films that they should concentrate on if they are dying for this genre.
