Unhappy Dealing with collecting burnout. What should I do?

If this post needs to be moved to somewhere else, please go ahead and do so.

So, I've recently been looking at my main collection of DVD's and Blu-rays and have come to a conclusion where I need to get rid of a lot of stuff and only keep favourites. I collect Anime as well, but I've stripped that down significantly too in the past few months. I basically watched a couple of episodes of everything I still hadn't seen...if I liked it, keep. If not, get rid of.

I still enjoy collecting, but it's gotten to the point where I'd rather have a collection where I can look at it & say: "All of this stuff is great." Instead of just impulse purchases which I may never watch or enjoy.

To give you an idea of what I was once going for:

I enjoy collecting animated movies. Whether it be from Disney/Pixar, Dreamworks, Sony, Blue Sky, Illumination.

The thing is, I was going for a "complete" collection you could say. So think of the shelves displaying every mainline feature film these studios released.

How should I go about this? Should I watch everything and decide what to keep and get rid of? It would take a lot of time.

Realistically, only you can answer that question. Personally, I wouldn't sell something that I've never watched. I've blind bought many things but I always watch them and then decide if it's something I want to keep in my collection. In addition, I go through my collection once in a while and get rid of stuff that I don't think I'll ever watch again.

in my humble opinion I would start with personal likes and dislikes, example was the film or show good, will I watch this again, etc. and then work from there. I had a experience where I had mostly action films in my collection, and a few campy horror films. I do not really remember wanting to watch the horror films again, so in order to decrease my collection I gave them to my brother in law who is a horror movie buff and would appreciate them more than me the action film fan. Best of Luck

My collection has gotten to the point where I have decided to be really picky about what I buy and keep in my collection. I like to do Redbox for new releases that I want to see, but not necessarily own. $2 to see a movie beats paying $20+ on something I am not that die hard to own. Plus I occasionally get discounts and free rentals from time to time from Redbox and T-mobile.

At the very least I go through and see what I've upgraded to on blu-ray. I get rid of those DVDs by passing them on to a friend who wants them. Of course any double dips I've collected over the years go out as well. For example, I had some of the single releases that later get put in a box set like Aliens and the Chris Nolan Batman trilogy.

Then there are the Dollar Tree finds that I can watch once and toss. Stuff I would have never purchased if they weren't $1. I mean, that's cheaper than renting it, so I think it's worth it if I'm mildly interested in seeing it.
