I agree with everyone above, Panasonic UB820 is the best in class in that price point.

Default Lg :: Ubk90 & ubkm9

LG :: UBK90 & UBKM9
  • UBK90 (Best Buy)
  • UBKM9 (Walmart)
  • 'both' can be had for less than $200
  • 'both' are outstanding picture on an LG OLED
  • note :: i have the earlier original UP970 (3) with LG OLED (C7)
  • picture quality is the best (quite noticeable)
  • comparisions? (yes - with (7) other UHD players in the past several years
  • your choice?

Default recommendation(s) :: HDMI Cables (2020)

recommendation(s) :: HDMI Cables (2020)

recommendation? ('that's quite subjective')
recommendation? (manufacturer?) :: Kordz

  • HDMI Premium Certified
  • high speed (gold label)
  • ultra high speed (silver label) - 2.1
  • note :: ultra high speed will become available (any day now)
  • note :: it's your choice on manufacturer
  • Kordz 'only mentioning as they're a great company and not well known'

CZAR you can go to Walmart and get a Monster Cables 6ft “premium certified” HDMI cable rated at 21gbps for $10 bucks. It’s all you need.

So I went with the Sony UBPX1100ES instead of the Panasonic that some recommended. Thoughts on this Sony player?

It is prone to spontaneous combustion and it slowly releases radioactive radon gas. You should've have asked about this player BEFORE making a purchase.

Not sure if I should take your post serious or not but I would never pay 1800 for some HDMI cables lol. I would like a serious reply about the player if thats ok. The only drawback I heard so far about this Sony player, is that it doesnt auto detect Dolby Vision. Not sure if a update come out to fix that yet but other than that thats all I heard.

My first post was deadly serious and my second post was offered in case you wanted only the best. You have to be pretty smart to appreciate and to afford something this exquisitely stupid.

Those HDMI cables can be worn as jewelry, too, when not needed for the player.

Manually selecting and unselecting Dolby Vision with this player will probably get tiresome, but the player will burn your house down and/or poison you with radon gas long before that happens.

At 2 AM, this is as serious as I gets.

This one does not appear to come with a 19" rack mount kit like the X-1000 did. If you intend to use Wi-Fi and and rack mount it then the player has to protrude out about 2" because of the Wi-Fi antenna. If you use wired then it can be rack mounted normally. Also be aware this player only has a 100Base-T connection so playing UHD rips will cause problems with a wired Ethernet connection, the Wi-Fi is AC so playing UHD rips is possible if you have a good Wi-Fi setup.

My UBP-X1000 has a limited number of streaming apps and AFAIK none have Dolby Atmos audio. It does support original source frame rate for streaming, this is something my Roku Ultra and Nvidia Shield Pro does not do or do well.

Pick most any piece of hardware and it most likely will have ąs when compared to similar hardware.

I use my Oppo UDP-203 for most disc playback but have not had any problems with the UBP-X1000 (or UBP-X800) the few times I have used them for disc playback.
