Default Warner still releasing HD DVDs until May 31st

i guess the war is not over?....yet?

No need to sound the alarms. We definitely assumed that Warner would continue to release HD DVDs until May 31st -- even after the format completely fell apart -- but thanks to DVDTown, now we've got a nice cushion of confirmation. According to "studio sources" that spoke with the site, the outfit will indeed continue pushing out red flicks as promised until June dawns, after which it will crank out Blu-ray Discs alone unless demand necessitates any restocking of older HD DVD titles. Nothing new here, but nice to know Warner won't be ditching the failed format early.
what the hell is that about? are you dropping them or not? http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/02/20...ntil-may-31st/

Those statements by Warner were made before all of the recent announcements. The demand that is quoted on the article applies to already published HD DVD titles. Yes, Warner will complete its commitment to HD DVD until the end of May. Then, forget bout it.

of course they are. They probably already have the movies either mastered or made. They are not jsut going to throw out their inventory when their are still people who will buy HD-dvd. I'm sure they are not going to start any new HD-dvd projects, but anything already being worked on will probably make it's way to HD HVD

Maybe I'll buy "I Am Legend" on HD DVD. Could be worth something in 100 years.

Default I think it's a good thing anyway

Warner at least is doing right by their red customers.

Unlike Paramount that just stopped...screwing customers that were waiting for movies...some that were to be released the next freaking day.

Since the format is offically dead and has been killed off at the source there's no point in releasing any more discs for it whatsoever.

You can safely bet that after May 31, 2008, Warner will never again release in HD DVD.

Relax... There are still plenty of red fanboys out there to waste their money on them. Just think of it as being like methodone for the red fanboys. Without it they would have to go through cold turkey.

They said they'll release after May 31st if demand necessitates it. Do you really think that there's going to be a demand?!

War's over man, go home. No need to worry about HD DVD any more.

They should not release any more HD's. At the very least , the ones that are ready to ship but thats it . I see them as dragging this thing on & just hurting more people....not making it easier on them.

I think he was talking about when they took away Blu-Ray support - unless they are doing the same thing again now they are switching back? If so I had not heard.

There is for the people who still support red, as irrational as that is. They haven't gone Blu and will hold out. More importantly, I think it says something about a company that keeps its "promise" even when there's no reason to.

Besides, they are basically finished. (most of the titles anyway) WB may as well sell some rather than scrapping the whole run.

Actually for a studio there is...there is still money in it, they will take advantage of that while there is still maximum buyers there.

They are most likely going to recoup the money they invested in mastering these titles in HD-DVD, there are plenty of fanboys out there willing to throw money away that easy.
