United Kingdom Election (1999)

Hi all.

I'm wondering if anyone knows does the UK release of Election (1999) actually exist.

I can't find photo or video proof that it exists ... I have never seen it on eBay or in anyone's collections ... the only evidence I have is a listing for it here on blu ray.com, a listing on Amazon that implies it maybe once was for sale and a listing on Cex which could be for the Region A release knowing Cex ...

So I'm wondering did it ever actually get released or was it shelved and if not does anyone have it in their collection. FYI The Region A version has the same artwork but not the BBFC.

Cheers!

I have it somewhere, so it definitely does exist (I seem to remember it was very scarce, but I tracked it down somehow...other Paramount discs are similarly scarce, such as Ridley Scott's Black Rain, which I failed to secure a copy of). Can confirm it's basically exactly the same as the US disc just with BBFC certificates, so go ahead and buy from CeX (or import the US disc)!

(Was hoping Criterion might port their restored edition here but still waiting...they haven't had much luck with Paramount licenses here beyond La Dolce Vita, so I can't blame them)

I also have it. Haven't watched it in a few years mind, might have to revisit. Hopefully Paramount will release in 4K soon.

It's already 4K with Dolby Vision on iTunes, so I imagine a UHD is in the pipeline

25th Anniversary of the film next year so that seems like a prime time to release it.

Excellent film. Would buy a 4K UHD if/when released.

Thanks everyone. I'm keeping an eye on Cex & eBay for it. Can't import as I don't have a multi region player (yet) ... Just noticed a few on my wantlist are all Paramount too and long OOP time to play the waiting game.

Just to point out the US disc is Region Free, so you could always import it if you don't find a UK copy!

In fact a lot of US discs are Region Free, particularly studio ones (usually most Paramount, Warner Bros, Sony, Universal, Fox, MGM, Disney etc). They only usually are Region A locked if they're forced to; for example I noticed Paramount's release of Popeye is locked to Region A, probably because Disney own the Region B rights.

If you're not sure, you can check on this site or ask in relevant threads!
