I will not lie, it is baffling that Series X gets 120hz support but PS5 doesn't. However it is a next gen upgrade coming for free it appears and i know some of you are fans of the casual pick up and play this offers.

The game is free to play now anyway, so no need for an ‘upgrade’ path, beside transferring the save file/stats

Yes, you are quite right. It did go Free to Play, it's just that i personally haven't played in quite a long time but i know some regularly play this so yeah, just nice confirmation it's getting a next gen upgrade i guess.

Btw wasn’t the game fake 4k/60fps on the pro? weird that it’s still not native 4k on ps5

I'm not going to lie, but 4K/120hz should be more than possible. Graphically there's zilch to really push Rocket League to stress the hardware not to reach native 4K. Its telling when a PC with marginally more power than a PS4 Pro can do that sort of stuff. Let's even say it's 8 Teraflops for PC to do so, but a closed system like consoles and 10+ Teraflops not doing it is BS.

I'll be installing this one for sure on the PS5. This is one of those games that I love playing with the kids. We do a lot of pass the controller game session with this one. Even my 8 year old has a blast.

It is just BC on PS5 and not a proper PS5 release. BC games can't do things like 120fps on PS5 so they would have needed to not be lazy and do a proper PS5 version for that.

Well, that's the thing. This IS the proper PS5 version just like the Series X also gets a next gen upgrade but unlike that, it's not got 120hz. Weird since even Devil May Cry is doing it on both. So technically there's no reasons for the omissions and i'm sure they get enough complaints, they will patch it.

I did not see that in the article linked in my OP and i also checked for what you quoted in that article and couldn't see it. So there seems to be perhaps conflicting reports or two separate things with one being a BC version and another a PS5 optimised (as far as that seems to be) release

No they need updated on XSX for things like that but it allows for updates like that while on PS5 they can't update anything like that unless they release it as a new PS5 game. Hence why this is getting updated only on Xbox while on PS5 it has no changes over PS4 Pro since it is just BC. Either it is laziness or they don't want to pay the fees to Sony for a PS5 version.

That last part is ridiculous because technically its a free to play game, they already agree to split a percentage of MTX so releasing a new F2P version for a game is no issue. Same way Warframe and others are doing so.

This is just quite BS from Psyonix tbh.
