Default Best cheap 4K player right now...

Hey, I just got a 4K TV and I'm looking for a solid 4K Blu Ray player that's cheap-ish. I only want it to tide me over until the next gen consoles come out so I don't want to spend a lot. What would you guys recommend? I don't care about it having 3D and I don't care if it does streaming. Really the only thing I care about is a quality 4K playback with all the HDR standards supported. Audio is not even that important as I'm just going to be using optical until I get my receiver upgraded.

for a quality picture?
easily the LG UBKM9 at Walmart (daily priced at $175)

alternatively (if price matters exclusively)
'any player' priced lower that 'you're comfortable with'

available information regarding players can get complex
keeping it simple - this is the guidance that i can position

Some folks like the Panasonic DP-UB420. Now it can be had online and box stores for $150 USD.

The Panasonic does tone mapping

HDR is complex with some movies having a higher range than others but with the Panasonic you specify what type of display You have and it matrixes everything into a proper response.

Alternatively you ca have it output SDR BT 2020. This can be useful because it’s far easier to calibrate SDR..

is the noticeable difference between Bluray 4K and regular Blueray (2k) about the same noticeable difference as Bluray 2K and DVD?

In terms of H & V resolution, no. A large percentage of UHD content is upscaled from 2K DI sources.
