I might check it out when it hits theaters here, it sounds sorta interesting even though von Trier's not my type of director. One of the Cannes titles on my shortlist to watch out for, along with Drive and The Artist.

And Dunst picked up Best Actress at Cannes for this, too.

This was an amazing masterpiece, I can't believe how Lars Von Trier keeps improving and improving.

Between this and Antichrist, Von Tier's slowly creeping up there on my list of director's I really need to pay attention to. And funny enough, I do remember, while in college, seeing another film of his called Breaking the Waves, which was also excellent.

Either way, Melancholia was fantastic. I found it more profound than Malick's Tree of Life. Kirsten Dunst is a knock out in this film. If she doesn't get an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Justine, it'll be a cinematic crime.

Everything about this film works effortlessly.

It'll be in my Top Ten this year.

Meloncholia is now playing on Time Warner HD on Demand for 10 bucks!

I watched it yesterday and it was a truly amazing experience. 100 times better than the somewhat similar The Tree of Life and Two Earths. This movie is like an arthouse 2012.

I'm not a fan of Von Trier but I always see his movies out of curiousity - this is by far his best film! Really touching, nerve-wracking, and full of tension from the very first scene. Much better than Anti-Christ too. Dunst was really good but it's Charlotte Gainsbourg that should get Oscar-nominated.

For those people that know it will play in the theater, this is the type of film that's more powerful in the theater than on TV, so I may watch it again in the theater when it comes out later this year.

If Gainsbourg didn't get nominated for Antichrist which was a powerhouse performance to say the least, I don't think she'll get nominated for any Trier films!

Anyway, can't wait to see this! The cinematography is probably simply amazing

Not showing yet in a theater close by me. I hope Trier's status as "persona non grata" at Cannes (quite unfortunate incident) will not affect the showing of this and his future films in my area (fairly large Jewish population). Otherwise, I may have to wait for this to come out on video (and I hate waiting

).

I'm interested.... Doubt it is on HDNet in Canada though as we seem to miss out on these.

To be honest I loath Lars Triers, I find him to be a pretentious douchebag. But I gave Antichrist a chance and I'll admit I liked it. So at some point I'll give this a chance.

I don't like Lars Von Triers as well, but I loved Melancholia. I liked the way Anti-Christ was filmed but it actually was too scary for me to finish (I'm a woose with good horror films).
