The Outer Worlds, the Obsidian-developed first-person RPG, is releasing on the Nintendo Switch on March 6th, the company announced today. The game’s Switch port was announced in July last year, before an investor call confirmed that it would arrive in early 2020. Now, however, we know the exact date it will arrive. Its debut on the Nintendo Switch follows versions released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One in October last year. Created by the writers of the original Fallout games, The Outer Worlds is the kind of open-ended RPG that’s designed to let you approach its missions however you see fit. It ranks among some of the best games released last year, and it’s well worth a play if you’ve been holding out for a more portable version. New Info: https://www.polygon.com/platform/amp...h-port-delayed The Outer Worlds delayed on Nintendo Switch due to coronavirus impact Chinese developer Virtuos, which is in charge of the port, is closed for the time being. The Outer Worlds publisher Private Division announced on Twitter Thursday that its Nintendo Switch port will be delayed indefinitely. The port is in development through Chinese team Virtous Games, which has been closed following the coronavirus outbreak in China. More than 20,000 confirmed cases have been reported, up thousands from only days ago. “We’re delaying @OuterWorlds on Nintendo Switch due to the coronavirus impacting the Virtuos team working on the port, to provide them enough time to finish development,” Private Division tweeted. The Outer Worlds was originally slated for its Nintendo Switch release on March 6. A new date was not given. Private Division said it’s working with Virtuous to “determine an updated development timeline.” A new launch date is expected “shortly.” The publisher also announced that it’ll also release a physical version of The Outer Worlds for Nintendo Switch. Virtous was founded in 2004 in Shanghai — where its largest office remains — though now headquartered in Singapore. Other offices are located in Chengdu, Shanghai, and Xi’an. In late January, the Chinese and Shanghai governments extended the Chinese New Year holidays until Feb. 2 and Feb. 9, respectively. Chinese New Year is public holiday and offices are often closed for a period — but holidays have been extended and offices closed following the coronavirus outbreak. Government-mandated travel restrictions remain in multiple cities. Last edited by Grim Reaper; 02-07-2020 at 02:54 AM. |

Saw elsewhere that the physical version is just a download code in the case and no cart for those that care.
It’s on my list to play on Gamepass for PC (just did 3 months for $1) so I’ll play it there. Cheap and I value the better graphics/performance more than portability for these kind of games. |

Are there any added or exclusive features for the Switch port?

They have announced a delay for the physical release and that they will be including a cartridge as a result, however...
Whether the cartridge will contain the entirety of the game remains to be seen. It's certainly feasible though. The PS4/One versions are about 36GB, and with downscaled assets, they can easily squeeze it down to a 32GB cartridge, or even 16GB if they're feeling particularly stingy. |

Looks like this port turned out pretty rough.
https://kotaku.com/the-outer-worlds-...tch-1843903299 "The Outer Worlds looks so bad on Switch I’m tempted to tell even people who have no other means of playing it to stay away." I played it on PC via Gamepass and thought it was a pretty mediocre game anyway, just thought I'd post a warning for any looking forward to it on Switch to only buy if you don't care much about how it looks. |

They aren’t the brightest people. Digital Foundry throws around the term "true 4K" like they actually know what that is.
![]() Because of this, I can’t believe anything they say, ever. |

UHD is 3840x2160 Televisions are not capable of displaying "true 4K" Because as I said before, it's a term used for cinema screens. 4K is double 2K, and 2K is 2048x1080. Whereas 16:9 HDTVs are 1920x1080. Digital Foundry refuses to recognize this, no matter how many times I corrected them in the past. |

The UHD Alliance had to make a compromise. True 4K is used to reference UHD Resolution as it is now a standard. Or every single UHD television sold could prosecuted as false marketing. |

Only the misinformed use “4K” to refer to UHD. A lot of people that I’ve educated, stopped calling UHD by the “4K” moniker.

I know when I say that, I’m not referring to 4096, am referring to 3840. It’s simply a catch phrase that has been adopted & used to market UHD. HDR, in my opinion, is much more complex & is likely more misused. Doesn’t help that there needs to be a chart of what qualifies HDR as HDR. On top of that, they slap 4K/HDR & brand it on both UHD discs & TVs. I guess my point is, I’m fine calling 3840x2160 4K. Even though I know it’s not technically. |

If you just define true 4K to be 3840x2160 then that's true 4K. Like I don't see what the issue is, who cares if meant something else for movie screens? Those don't even have pixels or any discretization so the term "resolution" is already a bit suspect. But ok I know what is meant by that, and I don't have any issue with an informal term meaning something different for TVs. It doesn't mean DF doesn't know what they're talking about, just that you're being really pedantic.
