Paramount has set Boy for release on December 4th. I know there were quite a few people keen to get a hold of this so I'm sure there'll be many pleased by the news, especially Kiwis wanting to get a piece of local cinema.
No word as to what makes it a Collector's edition but hopefully it's something more than just a name. |

https://www.mightyape.com.au/product...ition/21766695 So what about that "2 Disc Set" ? |

According to the review of the US edition, it has 'Interviews and B-Roll Footage (SD, 41:26)' but I don't know if that's just our special features merged together... I'd have to see it.
Our stuff; Introduction (2.23min) Behind the Scenes (10min) Deleted and Extended Scenes (13.28min) Outtakes (6.12min) Crazy Horse Videos (16.06min) Trailer (2.13min) Two Cars one Night (11.17min) The Introduction looks like VHS... originally i thought it was just bad filming, but it's actually part of the theme they were going for. Crazy Horse videos are also in the same old school style.. wobbly and the usual VHS quality. |

Does anyone have any more specifics about the difference between the US and Australian releases of this film? Specifically, is the short film any better on the US release? And which is the better set of extras generally?
I'm trying to figure out which one to buy... Thanks! |

I'd be surprised if the short film was different on the US release. I think it's been up-converted to 1080p so that it could be viewed in America without all the usual PAL troubles they seem to have over there.
The extras are broken down a couple of posts above. |

The extras seem to be different, which is frustrating but not as important to me as the quality of the feature and the short films. |

Also interested in which release would be the best overall, in terms of picture/audio and extras.

I would recommend the Australian Transmission Films version. It is all Regions and has optional English subtitles. Extras include: Two Cars, One Night, Waititi Introduction, Behind the Scenes featurette with commentary track, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Outtakes, Crazy Horse Videos and Trailer. Although the feature is 1080p DTS-HD-MA 5.1, the extras are 576i with DD 2.0
You will probably have to get a copy from some Australian source such as: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BOY-2010-NE...Y/292662157705 This source is saying that it is a Region B disc, but it is ALL Regions. Just gonna reiterate this: everything is a limited edition to some degree and becomes OOP after a while. The distributor order a certain number of units and that’s their run. Once it’s sold out, the sales figures determine whether or not it gets a re-release.
This is why titles from Umbrella and Shock randomly go OOP. Obviously, major movies are manufactured in much higher numbers, but even they eventually sell out - which is why you see re-releases with new cover art and stuff. Hell, I managed to snag the last copy of Begin Again on Blu from Amazon last year, and that’s now seemingly OOP. When I wanted to buy Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, I had to get it used from eBay. Those are both reasonably major films. So, yeah, Boy was a limited run, and you’ll have to just keep an eye out to see if any eBay sellers list it in the future. |
