Default Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger: The Complete Series DVD

Coming from Shout! Factory on February 17, 2015, the super sentai series that birthed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the states is receiving an official US DVD release.

-Product Information-
Discs: 10 (Shout! Factory and Amazon listing states 10 discs, but the photo shows 8 discs at the top of the spine.)
Run Time: 16.6 hours (50 episodes)
Language: Japanese
Subtitles: English
Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1
Region: 1

Confirmed bonus feature: "Power Progenitors: Super Sentai Zyuranger” Power Morphicon 2014 Panel This panel featured Yuuta Mochizuki, Geki the Tyranno Ranger, and happened at PMC 2014 in Pasadena, California earlier this year in August.

This is an extremely important release for any who love super sentai. The support and reception this set receives may affect the future American release of other super sentai.

Can't wait to pick this up. I use to download Sentai and watch it all the time, then lost interest in it. I will certainly pick this up to help support more releases.

Hopefully not just super sentai but TV tokusatsu in general.

I would explode
[Show spoiler]in my pants
if they released the original Kamen Rider on DVD.

You're right, but I think that's very long term. If this set does well and we were able to get another series, I'd imagine it'd first be another sentai like Dairanger or Kakuranger. Any tokusatsu able to get a US release will get my money, so I'm right there with you

I hope the sales are good enough for them to release Dairanger and Kakuranger. If anything, I see those two being the next ones if they were to do anything, just to follow suit with Zyunranger and using the MMPR connection as a selling point. I hope though we get Ohranger and Carranger.

I would imagine Dairanger would be next in line going forward. It was the next adapted sentai and they can market it with Kiba Ranger (white ranger), which is almost as famous and popular as the green ranger.

Added some additional info to the OP, taken from the Shout! website. The trailer looks great. Really hoping for a few more extras, possibly the dino video or maybe even the interview between Reiko Chiba, Mei, and Machiko Soga, Bandora. I was at PMC this year and I must say, it was a joy seeing Yuuta speak. From what I saw, he was a great guy.

I refuse to buy this.
I really wanted to, but I just couldn't.
The really bad Translation Job killed my decision to purchase this set.

I offered these to Brian when he asked if any fans had them. He then told me that he would get back to me. He never did.
There was no love/care/attention/respect put into this set.

Aw, that sucks. I was holding out because a bad subtitle translation is a dealbreaker for me when it comes to buying foreign stuff.

I'll just stick to the fansubbed episodes I have on my computer.

I've enjoyed this so far. I speak no Japanese so I have no idea if the translation is "off" or not.

They translated Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger to Dinosaur Squadron Zyuranger in the sub track, yet, they left Zyuranger as untranslated.

The Video Quality isn't the same as the Japanese release, seeing as Toei purposely gives crappy masters to foreign markets so that the Japanese won't import the inferior and cheaper DVD's.

Why translate "Kyoryu Sentai", but leave "Gosei Sentai" untranslated?

Quote:
The translation isn't wrong, by any stretch of the imagination, but it's... heavily simplified. When Barza is calling upon the Guardian Beasts, the translation makes them "Guardian Dinosaurs", which isn't correct. Geki and Dan DO have dinosaurs as their guardians, but Goushi, Mei and Boi do not. And... for some reason I don't particularly like the way they handle dialogue. For a literal translation of his opening speech here, it would be

"O great Guardian Beasts, the time has finally come to awaken the five holy warriors from their slumber!"

Shout's translation is correct, but it just lacks the punch it should have. The next line however... the translator didn't bother with the phrase "seigi no yaiba", and just put "Justice will prevail over evil", which while it keeps the meaning, it isn't what is being said.

"The blade of justice shall smite evil and defend the peace on Earth!"

As you can see, it doesn't take away from the MEANING of what Barza is saying, but his actual dialogue is far more dramatic than the translation lets on.

And when he starts awakening the Zyurangers, the dialogue gets further abridged. The only one that really jumped out at me was when he awakens Boi, as he says in the SF translation "Wake up already!", when the line is more along the lines of "How long are you planning to sleep for?!"

Like I said, it's not bad, at all. But it just lacks... something.
This is just a little of what is available around the 'Net.

I watched the first 10. When Shout! announced the series would be localized, I stupidly deleted them all.

This was the last time I give Shout! the benefit of the doubt.
I will wait for reviews and extreme sales before I ever purchase anything from them ever again!

Shout! has become such a crap company and doesn't care about Quality Control. All they want is a quick buck and they don't care about consumer complaints.

Strange, the stuff they've given Discotek has been pretty good quality from what I've seen.

They can request better versions. Shout! doesn't care about quality.
Also, Toei doesn't want the Japanese to import the cheaper versions at the same quality that Toei offers directly in Japan.

I was under the impression they discourage that sort of thing with other methods, like the western releases carrying over none of the bonus materials from the domestic (Japanese) release.

Toei does it many ways.
