Hello everyone.
What are the best 3D blu-rays released by Disney in terms of their utilisation of 3D?

Disney Disney Movies on 3D Blu-ray - best titles and general discussion

Hi All,

I've got pretty much every 3D Disney Blu Ray released.
Finally got a 3D home projection set up - now looking to get an order to watch them in.
Is there anywhere where there is a ranked list of Disney in 3D?
I've heard Tangled, Frozen & Toy Story 3 all have good 3D, the first Toy Story wasn't designed for 3D but has it's moments.
I'm looking to go for them in visually impressive order if that makes sense.

Thanks,
Dan

I have most of them and have to say that they're nowhere near as impressive as the best 3D films on the market. Apart from Monsters University and Wreck-it Ralph I don't see anything that really stands out. Decent 3D experiences but nothing more. I know a lot of people liked Tangled 3D but it didn't really blow me away.

There's a French website that ranks the 200 best 3D Blu-Rays, maybe you could use that: http://parodiesaffichesfilms.blogspo...lu-ray-3d.html

Bolt and Ralph Wrecks the Internet (yep, that’s what I call it) both have really good 3-D.

You're right, I forgot about Bolt! I haven't watched Ralph II yet.

It's not on 3D Blu-ray though.

Disney have the longest list of shame when it comes to movies they spent money converting to 3D and then not bothering to release them on disc in that format.

As for best Disney 3D, that's difficult because with Disney titles the 3D is deliberately kept mild so it doesn't upset people who hate 3D. Some titles are marginally stronger than others but there's not much in it. Rarely do you get something unusual from Disney like G-Force with frame-breaking effects.

I think beauty and the beast (the animated one) is essential 3D viewing. They did an amazing job on that and I’m not even a fan of the movie. Lion King and Frozen both have great 3D too. Those would be at the top of my list.

Of the three 2D animated conversions, Beauty and the Beast is the best, followed by The Lion King. The Little Mermaid is significantly weaker.

Frozen has solid 3D, as does Tangled but none of them really stand out from the others apart from early efforts like Chicken Little which don't look so good.

Agreed, little mermaid was a huge disappointment after spending months trying to find a reasonably priced copy. Some people love the 3D though, for some reason.

I still enjoy it more than the 2D version but there's no way I can recommend it to anyone as having good 3D. The same goes for Toy Story, I couldn't believe how tame that was, with insult added to injury by a fantastic couple of seconds of snow at the end just reminding you how good the 3D could have been.

Tangled has the best 3D. The "Lanterns" scene is one of the greatest story-motivated pop-out moments of all time. Also like Bolt, Meet the Robinsons, Frozen (and A Christmas Carol by Zemeckis/ImageMovers if that counts). Pixar's 3D is average to decent but always way overrated by website reviewers.

Apart from putting Toy Story at the bottom, I'd struggle to rank the 3D in Pixar films, there's not much difference between their strongest titles and the mildest ones. Having thought about it, Finding Nemo is perhaps the second most disappointing.

Monsters Inc. is where the 3D probably makes the biggest difference in enhancing the film so I would put that at the top of the list.

The Jungle Book has a nice opening, starting from the Disney train and castle scene. After that, I can't remember how it fared because I haven't watched the whole movie in some time.

I've seen other comments on here like this about 3D in Finding Nemo. Yes the animation is a basic compared to today but I've seen this movie in both 2D and 3D and the 3D definitely brings something to the table. I had major issues with Pixar 3D movies until my setup improved. But Finding Nemo was one of the few where the 3D was apparent from day one.

All Pixar movies are better in 3D than they are in 2D, I was just ranking (some of) them. Apart from Toy Story, can you name one with less impressive 3D than Finding Nemo?

I thought Frozen 2 was very mild in comparison to the first one and ranks below Finding Nemo…if we’re going to exclude The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, then Monsters University takes the #1 spot….easily.

Frozen 2 was milder than the first but I'd still place it above Finding Nemo.

Monsters University I agree is one of the best, not sure I would place it above Tangled though.
