Default PSN Outage 2025

Late Saturday night, a Sony Interactive Entertainment spokesperson responded to Polygon’s request for comment with the following statement: “Network services are fully recovered from an operational issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for their patience. All PlayStation Plus members will automatically receive an additional 5 days of service.”

I feel like people are making WAYYY too big a deal about this. Yes outages suck. I'm on the east coast and PSN went down around 7:00pm. I just shrugged, turned off my PS5 and did other things. It was back up the next morning. But everyone wants to act like it was some Chernobyl cataclysmic event.

Anyone here actually affected by the outage? All the games I played worked during the outage. As long as this wasn't a breach related to customer account info, it had zero impact on me.

I don't pay for PS Plus and don't play online games. In fact, between the Switch, Xbox Series X, Steam Deck, and PS5, the PS5 gets the least amount of playtime from me.

I was playing Tomb Raider (2013), which is a digital version. I didn't realize there was a mass outage initially, the only affect was I couldn't see the trophies that popped during that play session. I see a lot of people trying to use this as a Physical vs Digital issue. But it really seems more like a "Games requiring constant connectivity" issue.

Cool story bro!

Imagine coming into a PlayStation forum just to declare you rarely play PlayStation.

I came here from the front page.

Also, I do play my PlayStation. I was simply responding to heyadol's question. So I really don't understand your snark.

As I said in the other thread, I didn't know about this until it was over. Been playing a ton of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, however. So no real surprise I was unaware.

Yes. I play WWE 2K24. I don't pay for PS+ but in order to play MyFaction, the game has to be connected to the PSN. Lost out of my daily login bonuses. No biggie though.

I figure Gran Turismo 7 players were affected, given the always-online requirement. Aren't most Ubisoft games these days like that too?

Only as far as i know AC Shadows will be forcing online only but they also have a few online only titles like The Division and The Crew 2 which require online connections at all times to play.

Also, i know it might not seem like a big deal to some but my family members use an older TV that doesn't have apps and stuff so they relied on a PS4 to use things like YouTube when watching some of the content they usually like to on the TV and because of the weird set up Sony has, if your PSN doesn't connect you can't use YouTube for some reason. Not saying they can't use their phones to watch individually but they usually watch stuf together.

Personally i'm curious to know why the PSN went down and Sony did the same BS last time they were significantly breached with no communication to affected users. Also, just to make it clear i like to play Fortnite Save the World and without PSN you cannot log in at all. So for the majority of the day i wasn't able to log in and eventually when it came back i didn't have enough time to complete all available "V Bucks Missions". For those of you unfamiliar it's the game currency you can buy skins and other cosmetics. So it has some financial value to it.

If Sony also continue to force games online only a la GT7, i think that would have made people realise more.

I was affected because I usually play Friday nights with my friends in other states.
Your comment pretty much said you don’t care, you don’t play. It sucks because I want to read about people who were affected. You obviously weren’t.

The outage is also a good argument for Sony to make their live service games multiplatform or end paid online services. Steam users were still playing Helldivers 2 while PSN was down, I bet if GT7 were on Steam it would have been up and running as well.

I think at this point you have a higher chance of seeing pigs fly than Sony making PSN free again which i think should be 100% possible for basic online play considering they charge for ads and shove them at you often then also have multiple paid for PS+ tiers now.

Well, maybe i'm just a sour puss because everything seems to inflate except peoples wages

There are a few issues here.

1. This would affect people who stream and make revenue from some games.

2. Sony was did not provide any updates while the service was down. Which could cause people to panic, thinking it was another breach.

3. As willard0118 said, if you have planned time to play that is an issue.

Outages happen, yet the lack of communication was probably the biggest problem.

Again, I was responding to heyadol's question about if anyone was actually affected by the outage. I threw my two cents in and said I was not that affected by it and explained why: I don't play online games and don't really play my PS5 as often as other systems. Not sure why you guys are getting butt-hurt about that.

Very minor impact for me, just fancied a session on COD Friday night but couldn’t get on. Mainly playing Astrobot anyway, so no big deal.

I was oblivious to the outage, even though I primarily play online multiplayer games. I don’t play everyday, but at least two or three days a week lately. I must not have been playing it during the outage. I played it last night and I think a couple nights ago. But I was on my Switch on Saturday night.

Thanks for the news on this. I didn't know. That's one advantage to favoring offline games.

I can imagine those who play online or stream games were frustrated for a night. Sony should give a heads up, agreed, if they knew they were taking down the system for maintenance.

If they didn't know, then sounds like something crashed somehow. I don't know much about servers other than they're not too reliable sometimes.

It could be something as simple as a server patch that could take the servers down. Extended the PLUS is not enough to me. They could have cost some people thousands of dollars.
