Thumbs down Sony and Netflix agrees to 28-days delay window

http://mediamemo.allthingsd.com/2010...ees-to-window/

"But spokesman Steve Swasey confirmed that Netflix and Sony have reached another “28-day” arrangement, similar to the ones Netflix has reached with the other three studios."

http://www.crunchgear.com/2010/10/06...lix-streaming/

and also, disc-free netflix streaming on PS3 in one month
that's good news

That's too bad. While I don't absolutely have to see stuff the day it comes out, it's nice to be kind of close to the release date.
Although, I guess at this point, I have so many new releases lined up I've kind of lost track of "real" release dates.

That's disappointing. I enjoy getting new releases on release day, but I guess with all the other great features of Netflix it's hard for me to really make a big deal out of this.

That's good to hear although I usually stream through my blu-ray player. Nice to know I'll have another backup though.

The unlimted free rental/streaming model day one impacts with their far more profitable VOD traffic, and to a degree physical sales (not huge, but signifigant). These deals are good for you, because the conditions of these agreements typically means that the studio will dump a sizeable amount of its catalog and recent releases to streaming faster and in bigger chunks. So it's a tradeoff but generally a good one

Look at all the new release titles that aren't even available in Blu-ray (even with the 28 day window):

King Kong (1933)
The Exorcist
Seven
Maltese Falcon

Movies like Robin Hood show the 28-30 day delay for blu-ray. These movies aren't even available at any future date on blu. Nothing. Nada.

Yeah that really sucks, I wonder if they're on any other rental service. On the other hadn I had no idea King Kong (1933) and the Maltese Falcon were being released on BD. Its really cool to see these old movies remastered in 1080p.

Nothing new here.

They lower the quality of the service and

1) They don't inform the subscribers.
2) They don't lower the price of subscription.

Seems Netflix luvs and CASH and can't get enough. They know lots of people don't care what happens and will just keep giving over the money regardless.

Netflix is BS. They decided to charge for for Blu Rays and I agreed, then they decided to charge even more for Blus and at that point I couldn't agree.

I buy Blu Rays for $9.99 and there's more deals than I can afford to snap up and yet they say that Blu Rays cost more.

Stop renting and start owning. Works for me.

I agree that it stinks when subscriptions go up, and it's hard to say if the "blus cost more" argument is accurate for their purchasing needs. BUT, the deal as I subscribe now is still very, very worth it. I pay $11 (I think) a month and get 2 blus a week and unlimited streaming. Even with $9.99 blus out there there's no way it would work out for me. The rough math would be $1040 vs. $132. and that doesn't bring in the streaming content I watch.

I still wont blind buy new releases, they aren't earning any more of my money by doing this. Hell, I even had to rent Iron Man 2 first...

add to this list:

Seven Samurai
Psycho
Back to the Future - entire trilogy

Unavailable even with the 28 day delay - doesn't show any future blu date.

Really??? Really Netflix??

I've called Netflix. They said they'd get back to me in a week or two. It has been close to a month. I will call them again. Everyone on this forum who gets classic Blu-Rays from Netflix should call customer service and asked what's happening. The woman I talked to seemed unaware, and express surprise that such titles as Psycho and the original King Kong are not even listed as on the way. She said she'd sent word up the bosses.

I mean, really. Titles still in the works are Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Quai... I've been with Netflix almost since day one. I keep movies for weeks. I'm not even a drag on their postage expense. Lets get together and let them know what we want.

I have been with Net Flix since day one. Things have really changed over the past year with this stupid 28-30 day wait. Not only that but older movies being released on Blu is almost a thing of the past for Net Flix. They certainly are not buying the older releases on Blu like they did before. Blockbuster online does not have to wait at all and almost every older movie that comes out on Blu each week is available that week. I do not care for Blockbusters online service but it seems that Net Flix does not care anymore about what the customers want when it comes to Blu like they once did. If it was not for STREAMING they would basicly have nothing to offer that is equal to what they charge for Blu memberships. Thats my opinion anyway but if you want to watch a new release movie when it comes out and you still have to go to the movie rental store and pay $5.00 for a Blu rental then does it make sense at all to be a member of this company. I hate movie rental stores and the Blu rental prices and that is why we all joined Net Flix in the first place!!! Like I said earlier if it was not for STREAMING movies they would not have much to offer.

I agree, for $11 a month we get 2 rentals, we also stream to a Wii, 2 Xbox 360, a PS3, and a laptop (and yes we have had all going at the same time just to see what would happen). Dude NETFLIX is a bargain! One of the things that I love is being able to stream to the laptop when I am away from home on business of instead of paying $9-12 for the same movies that often are not in HD ( it's amazing how many places have not updated to HD)
