Some of the movies I buy are total blind buys. Most of the time they turn out to have been good decisions, sometimes exceptionally good.
One of those I made recently was Le tout nouveau testament [The Brand New Testament] (2015: Jaco Van Dormael) which I just bought because Benoīt Poelvoorde stars in it. The way it treats religion just struck the right chord in me. What about you? Which recent blind buys have you made that you don't regret? |

My most recent blind buy...
![]() Been meaning to see this for like 10 years (GEEZ!), but it was mostly released in Japanese cinemas. Lupin III is not all that popular here in the west. But they finally released an official Blu-ray release here in the US, so I just had to blindly buy it. |

Godland - an Icelandic film about a 19th century expedition. Visually stunning, memorable ... unfortunately, with some rather graphic scenes ... but otherwise a very powerful movie. Some past Criterion blind picks have let me down (Tampoopoo, Red Circle), but this one is a solid win.
