PlayStation = PS one
PlayStation 2 = PS2 slim PlayStation 3 = PS3 slim, PS3 super slim PlayStation 4 = PS4 Pro, PS4 slim It’s always frustrating when you buy a console at launch, only for it to be immediately be outdated a few years later. I know it’s pointless to complain about a company making money but what gives us the incentive to buy a console at launch when we all know there’s a better version of it down the line? This isn’t just a Sony thing, either. |

I don't think it will happen; a slimline version for sure, but seeing as 2160p is Film resolution and 10+ teraflops of power is more than enough to do that resolution at 30fps (again if we are talking Uncharted 4 quality graphics Times 4) then no. There is no reason for a mid-gen release.

I agree a PS5 Slim is almost a 100% certainty since its happened since pretty much the beginning of PlayStation consoles. However i think the possibility of a PS5 Pro is 50% tbh. I feel like there's definitely demand for it but i don't know how many Sony has sold since they seem to release combined sales figures for PS4 instead of a breakdown from my Google search.
I hope it happens even though some don't but we've had like 2 generations dragged out for 7 years before new consoles released and tech has been moving along swiftly in that time. So to those that want it, clearly it should be an option because thus far it hasn't compromised the experiences of base console owners. |

You can use a phone to do almost anything, regardless of the hardware upgrades. With an updated console, you get to run the games specifically made for said console with better specs.

Narmak, i can't think of a reason for the PS5 Pro to be made; the PS4 Pro was to bridge the 4K gap by rendering at 1440p and upscaling to 2160p, no way is Sony going to be anticipating 8K gaming in 3 or 4 years down the line. The PS5 can sit it out at 4k for quite some time, knowing that the 8K generation is very far off.

My personal feelings was to buy a PS5 at launch, enjoy it as it is and upgrade to a PS5 Pro if they release it and also at that sorta time, look to upgrade the internal storage past the 825GB or whatever the Pro might even come with as standard. I think the 825GB on PS5 is soldered in and not removable and the additional storage would be in addition to it but we'll have to get further details tbh on how it works. |

The PS4 slim version, for some reason reminds me of the 32X add on for the Sega Genesis. Unless my PS4 was broken, the subtle improvements didn't seem worth the cost of a brand new console. I imagine the PS4 Pro enhanced games will look nearly the same on a PS5.
As far as a slim PS5, that is a sure bet, but it's really not an improvement IMO, just a smaller style console. A pro version would have to be a major upgrade to really be worthwhile, but I don't see that happening as it isolates itself from the main console, which would be like Sega shooting itself in the foot when it released the 32X. |

Next gen, 4K is pretty much here for a long time imo as a sweet spot when paired with 120hz and all the bells and whistles. However most titles might be a dynamic resolution and not hit 60fps with a native 4K even if desired. So around about the end of 2020, rumour has it Nvidia launches their new 3000 Series and their top end GPU, the 3080 Ti if current naming stands will be a 20 Teraflops or more whereas PS5 is a little over 10 and sometimes under even. So you then also take into account how both Nvidia and AMD will have other advances too between 2020 and the likely 7 year life cycle we'll get again and have GPUs that probably do in excess of 30 Teraflops if i had to guess by 2027 and more Ray Tracing performance. If i predict say maybe 2023/2024 for a new PS5 Pro, then they could meet their 7 year or so timings they seem to be going for. Market it as "8K" gaming instead by really push 4K gaming more. I feel like Sony could possibly amp the PS5 Pro to circa 15 Teraflops variable but we'll see what happens. I feel like things are going to be moving very fast in the PC spare over the next 5 years or so. |

The "slim" version serves two purposes (imo), one it take advantage of improvements in technical design allowing for a smaller and more efficient version of a device to be made, and second, it lets Sony (or whoever) raise the profile of the console part way through it's life. It's bound to make some existing owners buy another one and likely persuades those "on the fence" to spend the money.
A slim PS5, yes most definitely. A Pro PS5 is unlikely, I belive. The Pro exists because 4k became a thing during the lifespan of the PS4, that kind of sea change isn't likely to happen this time around. 8K will be niche for a long time to come and even if it suddenly takes over the world, the PS5 already supports it. |

CoD is disgustingly inflated and hope Sony forces them to drop the single player installation they forced on us. I luckily have a lot of external storage snd upgraded internal but feel for those that didn't.

yes but they still run on said console, they don’t cut support. There are people here that still use base ps4 to play the latest game

I play on my base PS4 and it's starting to jet engine a lot. Luckily i wear a headset but it's annoying when you think it will blow up sometime soon just for starting a game. I really hope the claim for PS5 cooling is true and Sony nailed it under load remaining cool and silent.
I'm also more than willing to upgrade to a PS5 Pro during next gen too as i'm pretty much locking into the 4K/120hz sweet spot for my future gaming. That said, i do wonder if we see a PS5 or Pro version possibly attempt 240hz gaming support. Especially if next gen HDMI 2.1 equipped GPUs do allow it. I'd genuinely be tempted to invest in a 240hz monitor and use that next to my TV to play some games on and switch cables between the two depending on what i play. |

True but the latest iteration from around the time of the Red Ded Redemption 2 bundles is vastly improved if it has sufficient air flow around in a normal placement. I seriously hope Cerny wasn't teasing a letdown with their "exotic" cooling method. Series X really does look like they also figured out a really compact design and airflow solution to run cool and mostly dare i say quiet.
