Germany Fright Night Part II (1988) Tommy Lee Wallace

After some confusion regarding the legal situation of last years DVD-release of 'Fright Night Part 2' by '84 Entertainment they announced a few days ago that the legal situation has been resolved and a Blu-Ray-Release will follow.

According to their announcement the HD-Master has been provided by Paramount US.

Quote:
After submission of the legal chain Paramount LA has provided us with their original HD-Master. Therefore we can look forward to a perfect german Blu-Ray-Release of 'Fright Night Part 2'.
Original announcement (german):

For now. Now that we know who controls the US rights (Paramount of all people) we can expect a US release via a third party license (Scream Factory or Olive likely).

Well here's to hoping that we can see a US release soon. I actually enjoyed this one more than the first one, I think it was the soundtrack that wrapped me into the movie.

They didn't say that Paramount licensed the rights to them, just that they got the HD-Master from them.

84 Entertainment may have had to work out separate licensing arrangements in order to release this film, one for the physical distribution rights and another for access and use of Paramount's HD-Master. My guess would be that whomever licensed the physical distribution rights to 84 Entertainment, didn't have access to an HD-Master of their own.

So perhaps the rights belong to the director/producer/etc and the licensing rights are now up for grabs?

I think the stronger possibility is that the film's physical distribution rights are split up by territory, meaning whomever owns those rights in Germany, might not hold the same rights in the US or UK.

yep, but they did the HD master. A while ago too. But the US home video rights were sold to International Video Entertainment (IVE) in 1989.

[Show spoiler]IVE became Live Home Video, then Live Entertainment, then Artisan Entrainment and then they got bought by Lion's Gate Films that then changed its name to Lionsgate.
