First off let me say hello to everyone here. I just purchased a sony xbr4 46 inch and I am running my BluRay through my ps3. I was wondering if I could get some suggestions as to which 2.1 system is the best out there.

I was thinking about the Bose system, but it seems like I might be paying extra for the dvd part which i will not use.

Not knowing your budget, I have to say do you really want Bose? I think it would be worth getting quality bookshelf or Tower speakers with a nice sub and receiver to drive them. Unless you want a simulated surround effect? Ah, well, just throwing some ideas out there.

My suggestion is to try and find a place that has the Bose system hooked up so you can take a listen to. Check it out and see what you think. Then, look at some quality bookshelf speakers and spend some time listening to those. That way you can see if you really want the simulated surround sound or prefer the traditional 2 channel sound. |

I was also thinking of going the soundbar route. The thing is I will not be using this to listen to music. It is just for movies, TV, and video games. I'm not sure if this should factor into my decision. Thanks everyone who has offered up some advice, it is greatly appreciated.

I have the Yamaha soundbar in my family room set-up (not my Blu-Ray set-up) and like it a lot. It is the lower level Yamaha soundbar (forget the model # - maybe the 400???), but it sounds very good. It handles DD and DTS just fine. It does not decode the newer audio codecs, but I don't need those in this set-up.
I love the fact that it reproduces surround sound and does not need a separate receiver. I am sure that the newer Yamaha soundbars have more to offer. Give them a look. |

ようこそ! Welcome to the Blu-ray forums. It sound like the soundbar is a good option for you. Depending on what kind of budget you have:
YSP-4000 - 1.800 USD http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...6&CTID=5001100 YSP-3000 - 1.200 USD http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...8&CTID=5001100 YSP-900 - 900 USD http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/p...0&CTID=5001100 Note that only the YSP-4000 and 3000 models support HDMI. They also support iPod connections. But as someone stated before, they do not support the latest audio codecs. |

I would recommend getting a good A/V receiver, like a Yamaha or Onkyo, as well as a pair of good bookshelf speakers and resonably priced subwoofer. For bookshelf speakers, I would seriously check out Monitor Audio BR2s or Paradigm Atoms. Combine those with a Paradigm PR-10 or PR-12 sub, and you'll never want to hear a Bose system again. |

I have posted a few times about Bose. Bose are crap. I run a movie theatre and have been in the business for over 22 years. Every projection tech I know craps on that name. Here is my broken record phrase on the subject...
"Has no highs and has no lows...look at the the label and it must be Bose." Good for music only. Do not use for home theatre. |
