I've never heard of this before. Cool cover, though. I'll listen for some buzz, see if it's worth a blind buy.

Special Features and Technical Specs:
- "Envisioning Darkness" Featurette
- Audio Commentary with Director Marc Meyers and Writer Alan Trezza
- Optional English, English SDH, and Spanish subtitles for the main feature

EDIT: Watched the trailer. I hope that wasn't supposed to be a twist....

Here were my thoughts from the "Recommend a modern indie horror movie thread"...

Quote:
It's been a while since I found a film to recommend that really knocked my socks off but I am so very excited to present another really, really solid recommendation to this thread tonight. What do you get when you combine Satanic Cults, solid practical effects, a late 1980's time frame, Metal Music, and some really, REALLY fun reinterpretations of classic Slasher movie conventions? One helluva fun ride that's what, but more accurately you get....

We Summon the Darkness

Quote:
Three best friends embark on a road trip to a heavy-metal show, where they bond with three aspiring musicians and head off to one of the girls' country home for an after-party.

We Summon the Darkness takes many of the basic slasher movie conventions and presents them in a way that personally.... I've wanted to see for a very long time. This is a film that I feel is very much a product of the times we live though set against the backdrop of the 1980's which makes for a story that works well and feels fresh without having to reinvent the wheel. It utilizes so much of current cultural ideas but does so in a way that doesn't feel preachy or contrived, but rather presents a fresh spin on the classic slasher tropes and honestly just makes what is old feel just a bit newer once again. I can't/won't go into any more detail than this as discovering the direction this film was going to take was a very satisfying "A-ha!" moment for me and one I would hate to spoil for anyone viewing. Played relatively straight for most of its run time there is just the right amount of subtle humor mixed throughout to give viewers reason to smile if they pick up on the jokes.

The cast while not exactly star studded, still carries some recognizable names and each performer plays their roles perfectly... (even Johnny Knoxville who I had serious worries about), though again in ways you may not be expecting when the movie starts.

Slated for a release this June on Blu Ray courtesy of Lionsgate, this one can be viewed on Amazon prime rental currently and comes Very Highly Recommended.

Completely agree with everything TripleHBK said. It has that old school horror feel from the 80's but is still present. It's not going to be an all time classic but it never tries to be that it's just simply a real fun time and it kept my interest for the entire movie which sadly isn't as common as I wish it was when trying new indie horror films lately.

Why do they do that with trailers? Spoiling the whole premise.

It looked like something i would like but the trailer basically gives everything away.

So nobody is putting this out in store today I take it? I was expecting Walmart to carry it at least, especially since they got Guns Akimbo and Come to Daddy on blu recently, but it looks like no dice. This isn't showing up in stock (and specifically says out of stock) at all of my local stores in the Walmart app. Then I tried Brickseek to see if any Walmarts or Targets carry it and nobody has it near me. Zero results show up when I put in my zip code.

I don't know if this is a temporary thing and it'll arrive late to Walmart because it does give in an store price of $14.96 (which led me to believe they'd get it) and it says out of stock. But now I'm debating waiting or just picking up at Amazon or even Walmart's website. Only sucky thing is Walmart's price is $17.08 online still, they haven't even updated to match the "in store" price

Mine arrived today from Target. Pre-ordered during B2G1.

Looking at the back of the case, this thing lists 8 producers + 21 executive producers! Then another 4 co-producers after that.

My Walmart didn't even have new releases out when I went at 10 am today. Had to ask them to pull from the back. The guy was nice enough to bring all of the new releases coming out today that they had and it was only The Hunt (which I asked for on blu), Monk the complete series DVD boxset, and then Letterkenny something something on DVD.

I hope you're right. Usually they don't list an in store price for items that aren't coming. Target isn't carrying it either according to Brickseek. Hope you're right and all of these Walmarts got a delay... I'll check again on Friday I think

I watched it last nice and absolutely loved it. The A/V quality was quite solid.

I never even viewed the trailer online (it's not included on the disc) before watching the film...which I've heard was very spoiler-ish, and it's probably a good thing I didn't. The plot twists came out of nowhere and work best that way, and the 80's Satanic Panic elements are strikingly relevant to what's happening today. The mansion that much of the later film takes place in was pretty visually striking also.

If you're a Christian though, you probably do not want to watch this film. Seriously...just a friendly warning.

The Director/Writer audio commentary was also quite good, and I learned quite a bit that wasn't revealed in the Featurette on the disc. I would have loved a 2nd commentary with the three actresses too, but c'est la vie.

Johnny has entered
[Show spoiler]Bruce Willis territory. One day on set to shoot a film, and it totally shows.

I rented the DVD from Redbox, but I'd only get the blu from the $6.96 bin to see the gals clearer. lol

This isn't great. Sure the girls are gorgeous but it really falls flat after the "twist". It has no idea where it wants to go and just goes through the motions in the second half. Where's the gore? Why does the blonde chick go out so lamely? You swing a boat motor around the whole film and NO ONE gets shredded?

Alexandra Daddario is the main stand out, but I noticed Amy Forsyth played the lead, Natalie, in Hell Fest (2018). Amazon prime shipped my order, which is due Tuesday.
