LEGEND.

The untold story of the man behind the mask comes to life in The Legend Of The Lone Ranger. When the ruthless bandit Butch Cavendish (Christopher Lloyd) ambushes a team of Texas Rangers and leaves them for dead, only John Reid (Klinton Spilsbury) survives. Enlisting the help of his childhood friend Tonto (Michael Horse) and donning a mask, Reid saddles up a fiery horse with the speed of light, a cloud of dust and a mighty Hi-Yo, Silver—and one of America's most beloved and enduring symbols of justice is born.

Also starring Academy Award winning actor Jason Robards as Ulysses S. Grant, The Legend Of The Lone Ranger is a sincere and dramatic retelling of the journey of two heroes who have captured the imagination of fans for over eighty years.

Whoah. I'm all in for this one.

I used to see The Legend of the Lone Ranger all of the time on HBO during my childhood, but it dropped off the face of the Earth after the early 1980s. I want to see how well the film holds up now in 2015, because I remember being pretty freaked out by some of the violence when I was a kid.

Is it too much to hope for a Klinton Spilsbury commentary track? Ideally the whole thing should be dubbed by James Keach.

Christopher Lloyd was great...and because of constant HBO airings, I still remember the "Man in the Mask" song.

In one day, both of William A. Fraker's directorial efforts (he was better known as a cinematographer) get announced. It's not often when a director's whole filmography is announced on a single day.

I remember seeing this as a kid and having the Lone Ranger and Tonto action figures. When the Johnny Depp film came out, I was tempted to buy the DVD to revisit it, but ended up just watching it on YouTube. I found it to be quite enjoyable for the most part. I might just pick this up.

So I did (maybe because it's much more obscure and it's not a Western). I guess I was incorrect then.

I utterly enjoyed this as a kid. I saw it on the big screen, and thought it was great. It took me forever to find this on DVD a couple years ago, so I am all in.

I don't know if they can find Spilsbury. i think he was last seen driving an ice cream truck in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

It played a couple years ago on cable, I used to have it on my DVR until I moved and changed equipment. It looked pretty good in HD from what I remember and the movie itself aside from knowing now Klinton Spilsbury's voice was dubbed by another actor held up well in my humble opinion.

That being said I will picking this one up myself, I remember begging my parents to take me to see this at the time. I can remember the movie vividly and am fairly sure we saw this at the drive inn. It's one of my guilty pleasure movies as a kid, and repeated viewings on HBO in the early 80's only strengthened my affections for this movie.

Wow! This was a nice surprise to see! Definitely going to be a day one for me as well.

Going to date myself a little bit here, but this movie was the first VHS I bought with my own money from a Curtis Mathis!

The Legend of the Lone Ranger took a beating on the official site review here, but I nonetheless purchased a copy from Movie Stop earlier today. This movie was a big part of my life when I was 10 years old, and I must have seen it a dozen times on HBO.

Whether or not this film will hold up to my rose-tinted memories of my cinema discoveries in the early 1980s remains to be seen, but the cast of actors is undeniably strong.

I am watching this right now, and the reviews are spot-on on the bummer video quality. But as I recall, the movie always looked pretty poor on HBO. I remember seeing it in theaters, but 44 year old me does not remember the film quality of what 10 year old me watched.

One thing for sure . . . it is FAR better than the DVD release from Lionsgate

I've seen the screencaps posted around, these look TERRIBLE compared to the DVR'd version I had a few years ago that played on Showtime I believe. I wonder if this release got the equivalent of what happened to "Somewhere in Time" where an older master was used or given instead of an available newer one.

Could be a case where the source material is beat up and the film was always soft to begin with. The problem here is the source isn't good -- but Shout's encoding makes it worse. I have the Network UK version and it's superior simply for not having as many compression issues.
