When I watched Civil War, it was full, of course. Some people applauded at:
[Show spoiler] Some actually stayed for the mid-credits scene. I liked it. it adds to the experience. |

I love that. When a crowd is really into a movie it really amps up the experience.

No, I love it.
That's part of the beauty of seeing a film with an audience. I even appreciate the occasional clever heckler here and there. |

I've only had a handful of experiences of clapping at a film. Mostly the film festival in Poland I went to had you clapping to every single commercial before the films started because they were the sponsors. There I had one good and one bad applauding experience. The bad was watching Nightcrawler, keeping in mind the festival mainly consisted of film students all over the world, so they felt the need to clap after any sort of film term used, they applauded when he brought that he's began looking at framing, they applauded when he mentioned the CCTV camera was using a wide angle lens. Christ they ruined the film for most my mates.
The good time was during Mommy, [Show spoiler] , it was such a perfect moment where you could tell the audience were both so invested in the story, the characters and their struggle and they felt the claustrophobia of the aspect ratio, so that sense of release just spread amongst the entire audience and felt truly justified. The only other times I've had an audience applaud a film was The LEGO Movie, which was a packed out screen with about 600 audience members, and you could tell all the adults and kids loved it alike, which was kinda sweet having them applaud. And Under The Skin, which was the first screening it had after release, about 10 of us in there total, and one guy wanted to stamp his authority and make it known he loved it by clapping really loudly as soon as the credits rolled. It felt really unnatural and unnecessary, and kinda spoilt the atmosphere the film built over the runtime, and just kinda showed him up for not really respecting or understanding the film at all. |

Personally I think it's kind of stupid unless you're at a cast and crew screening.

I don't mind applause at the end of the film. During parts of the film can be a little annoying if it causes you to miss a line or something but mostly I just hear it after the movie ends and the credits start.
Mostly recently, there was a huge burst of applause after that final shot in Batman v Superman. The audience went nuts. It was great. |

I don't mind it except for forced applause at the end of advance screenings. I've seen some genuine crapfests where people clap when it's over. Just because someone showed you a free movie doesn't mean you have to applaud.

Love it for most movies. I have fond memories of being part of the crowd while applauding ID4, Star Wars (prequels and TFA), and the first Avengers.
However, I am still perplexed and disturbed at all the young people who applauded and cheered over all the bloody knife-murders while watching The Purge. The kills weren't even all that over-the-top or anything, and the movie itself is pretty grim, so I just didn't get it. I never had an experience where people booed the screen or anything, but if that happened it'd probably bother me to no end. I tend to enjoy most movies I see, I don't want to be taken out of the experience by people not enjoying it. |

Best was during the premiere of Aliens….the scene where Ripley comes around the corner with Newt into the room full of eggs. It was total silence in the theatre and some guy near me stood up and yelled something along the lines of 'burn those mother**kers!' and the whole theatre applauded. It was pretty cool.

I honestly don't think I've ever been to a movie where people have clapped. At least not that I can remember. Maybe once back in the distant past. Where I live in Canada, people tend to be a bit reserved so I think that's a big part of it. I would never think to clap at a movie myself, I mean it's not like the characters and / or filmmakers are there to hear and appreciate your applause.

I've never been in a cinema where the audience cheers the movies. I have however been to cinemas where women decide to bring their whining babies, and you get the popcorn throwers too. Luckily though I found a cinema that bans babies from entering and doesn't sell popcorn, so all that's left is to wait for a good movie to come on.

I remember I went to the midnight premiere of The Dark Knight Rises and obviously it was a full theater, and everybody clapped when it started, when it ended and every single person in the theater gasped when that lady called Joseph Gordon Levitt Robin
