Angry Anyone with UHD disc cases that look greasy?

Anyone with disc cases that look greasy? I have had a lot of them and am wondering if I am the only one?

yeah have a lot like that and have seen others mention it in recent posts
and it seems prone to making UHD playback troublesome, I often have to wipe those discs down with a microfiber cloth even if I don't see anything on them, blus most handle it OK, but did have to wipe one or two
wonder how healthy that stuff is, leeching plastic usually isn't a great thing, no sign of those CA (California not Canada) warnings about cancer on disc cases yet though....

I'm glad you mentioned UHD playback, I never noticed this in Blu-ray cases, I only noticed this with UHD cases.

I noticed this a while back. I haven't had any playback problems but I do notice a number of discs that have smudges on them. It's easily wiped off, but I'm worried what it might do to the discs over time.

I'm actually in the process of replacing all my cases with Vortex Eco-Lite cases (the kind you see with Sony movies). They don't develop that greasy coating, so that's one recommendation.

I've seen it in Blu-ray cases too. I wonder if it could be lubricant from the manufacturing equipment? The machines that place the discs in the cases also leave those circles that you sometimes see.

I have one UHD release that has a greasy packaging interior. Fortunately, that grease isn't on the disc itself. Will that substance eventually ruin the disc if it gets on it??

And thinking back to a bunch of my HD DVD releases, that greasy substance was on a bunch of those discs and the inside of the packaging as well. I'm gonna have to check out a few of them either this evening or tomorrow and see if they still work OK a dozen+ years later....

I've noticed a cloudiness on my Blu-ray cases. I've tried to rub it off with a cloth from the disc holders, just in case.

This same stuff is there on regular Blu cases, it just doesn't show up as much to the naked eye because of the translucent blue plastic vs the opaque black of the UHDs.

Sometimes I'll notice a greasy imprints of the disc hub on the other side of the case.

I find the easiest solution is simply to lick the grease off the case, it’s actually delicious. Problem solved!

BD cases have stuff too, but it's more powdery, 4K cases have something that's more greasy. I've also taken to inspecting discs and wiping them off if there's anything on them, and then I'll take some hand sanitzer and clean the case out and let it be drying off while I'm watching the movie.

Yes, but not from the boutique labels. They somehow don't need to lube up their products with real life DNR.

It does stand out a lot more with the black cases, I use to wipe it off, but you're just going to drive yourself nuts with that stuff.

It's on the discs too and it can cause issues, if you use a microfiber cloth you're just moving it around, you have to clean it off, so unless I smudge the disc with my finger, I'll leave it alone.

I use a microfiber cloth and it comes off just fine when wiping the cases as you can get some action onto it (as you say, it just moves it around when wiping the actual disc surface as you can't be too rough with it), but I just wipe the hubs down underneath where the discs sit and don't bother with the rest of the case.

Yes definitely, and it's not just on pre-packaged with a blu-ray and sealed. I find it when I order lots of 10 or 20 empty replacement cases, both blu and UHD. And actually I first started noticing it with some DVD cases years ago.

Same here, I ordered a bunch of cases from bluraysforeveryone and they were filthy.

My OCD and I hate the greasiness. Used to try to clean it out, but now I live with it; it's easy enough to wipe off the discs if it gets on there, as others have noted. I've found it's most noticeable on empty multi-disc cases I've ordered from casetopia. But y'know what's ironic? One of the only UHD releases that did NOT have this problem, for me... was GREASE. Word.
