Hello, looking for some advice on this issue.
I currently have a 65 inch 4K HDR TV (no DV) but the OG xbox (2015). I need a 4K player to get the most of the TV but I'm wondering if I should get a player now for around $200 or wait for the new video game consoles which will be likely $500+. The problem is, I don't play video games much anymore, and when I do its just shooter and sports games. Not sure I can justify the extra $300 for maybe 4-5 hours of gameplay per week.. What are the pros and cons of using a PS5 or XBOX to play 4K discs? does the console require more power usage? thanks |

My advice is to pick up the upcoming PS5 or the new Xbox, because they’ll have a decent 4K UltraHD Blu-ray player. This way you’ll have the best of both worlds in case you decide to start gaming again.

If you were already planning to get the consoles because of the games, I think it would be better to wait. But if you think you would be getting the console mainly to watch 4K blu-rays and rarely to play games, I think you would better off getting a 4K player. I think you could get one of the consoles if the price difference was less significant, but if the consoles are indeed $300 more expensive than a player, I personally don’t think it’s worth it for you.

Theres been no conformation from Sony or Microsoft that the UHD drives will include DV. Just something to keep in mind just in case you have a DV tv.

Since you don’t have a DV tv and don’t see yourself playing much video games,
get the panasonic ub420 (on sale for $220 atm) The picture quality will most likely be better than the new consoles with their HCX processor & HDR optismer and customizable picture settings |
