I just wanted to know why Blu is taking so long to get movies out in the market if they want sales put out movies they know are going to sell Lotr, Matrix, Toy Story stuff like that.

Too long - by the time many movies came out I'd stopped buying DVDs, waiting for the high def versions instead. If they don't get them out quicker on Blu-ray the same thing will happen again. I make most of my purchases in the first few years of a new format, that's their window of opportunity to sell to me. I don't see what they lose by releasing good movies early, late adopters can still buy them when they finally get round to moving with the times and buy a Blu-ray player.

Just to piss you off.
Seriously. That is the only reason. It has NOTHING to do with actually encoding the movies, or licensing, or marketing or anything else at all, anyone who says differently is misleading you. It is just to piss you off and so that our members have something to boost their post count. |

Making the movies for blu-ray takes time to get done as well as having multiple titles going at one time it just would not be smart to release all the hits at one time because it would flood the market and not make as much as they could. I would like to see a lot of those titles as well, but I am not in any rush.

it's a guessing game for studios, specially if its catalog titles, whether they want to invest time and money for a title that might not sell so well. new release like 300 and Harry Potter get Blu's quickly because they are still hot... people just saw them in the theatre. But when it comes to older titles, the studios have to gamble in a way. They have to pay for the discs to be made, but they're not sure if people will buy them, or if they do buy them, how many will sell. The studios have to agree that it's a good investment first.

I would suggest you do some digging on your own and you will find out the many reasons why the delays on this question you have. I am sure that one of the members will take the time to answer in detail, but the question has many answers and reasons.
