This was a pretty good flick.

Here's my review from the Movies section of the forum...

Mandy Moore and Claire Holt play sisters who decide to go cage diving in shark-infested waters while vacationing in Mexico. This fun adventure turns deadly when the boat winch breaks, and the cage plummets to the bottom of the ocean floor. The sisters are stranded beyond the range of communication with the boat, with their oxygen tanks are running low, as sharks circle from above.

47 Meters Down was initially destined for a direct-to-video release in 2016 before it was bought by a different studio in the hopes of attracting a theater audience of desperate guys who want to see beautiful women and sharks. Naturally, I jumped at the chance to see this film on opening night. This is the type of B-movie goodness that I live to see, and I'm pleased to report that it's a fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat survival thriller. The usual plot conventions of people doing unwise things to put themselves in greater danger applies, as always, and, if you are looking for Oscar-caliber dialogue and insight, then you are in the wrong place. 47 Meters Down remains afloat despite the flaws, however, and it succeeds as an intense summer popcorn movie.

The boat captain is played by Matthew Modine, whom I grew up watching in 1980s movies like Vision Quest, Married to the Mob, Private School, and Full Metal Jacket. It's always great to see favorite actors from "back in the day" still getting plenty of work.

September 29th is a Friday, so this is not a US release date. US can probably expect Sept. 26th or Oct. 3rd.

From a cancelled DVD only release under the title "In the Deep" to an actual blu-ray release under its original title.

...not too shabby of a success story

Did I see the same flick ya'll did, cuz the one I saw was neither fun or good, and I'm a sucker for bad shark films! Did my dislike of Mandy cloud my opinion? I saw it for free and felt ripped off for that 80 minutes I'll never get back.

Whatever, not trying to rain on anyone's parade. Enjoy it if you enjoy it, but if on the fence, be warned.

Last jab: It deserves that cover!

I agree, though I wouldn't put the blame on Mandy Moore at all. She and the rest of the cast did the best they could.

The movie was not Jaws levels of good nor Sharknado franchise/Shark Attack 3: Megalodon levels of "so bad its good". It was just middle of the road and...kinda boring, to be honest.

I like the Canadian artwork better, but it's a shark movie, and that's a guilty pleasure so it gets a pass from me!
Just dropped to $19.99 on Amazon. I can test the waters at that price.

I've never wanted a fictional character to die more than Mandy in this movie. She was SO ANNOYING.

Decent flick, worth seeing on cable.

I actually managed to get the Blu ray back before is was pulled... Thought it was pretty good. One of the better Shark movies. I sold it for a pretty penny on ebay but knew I would buy it again when it got its second release.

I would put the best shark movies in this order.

1. JAWS

2. JAWS 2
3. The Reef - I actually think this is a much better film then JAWS 2 but Chief Brody is not in it
4. Open Water
5. 47 Meters Down
6. The Shallows

The Shallows gets sunk by a pretty laughable Hollywood-style third act. Hoping that isn't the case with 47.

Didn't realize it got a Blu-ray release, thought it was only DVD.

Anyway, tempted to pick this up, but with it being Lionsgate, should be around $10 in a few months, though I'd like to get it with the slip cover.
