United Kingdom The best SINGLE FILM blu-ray package ever?

I was wondering which would get people's vote as the best overall BD package for a SINGLE FILM from any company, any language and any era (eg Region A Criterion BDs can be included)

Points for consideration would be

- Quality of the film itself
- Video and Audio quality
- Extras package

From my own collection Indicator's Limited Edition release of Night of the Demon must be #1.

What about the others?

Dunno... what others have you got?

My vote, Eureka's Touch of Evil.

Although I agree that the Indicator NOTD release is outstanding too.

Boutique labels aside though, had it retained the original mono track on the 4K disc then it would probably have been this:

Remarkable how beautiful they can make an 81 year old movie look!

You're forgetting something important in the points for consideration, something that is way too often disregarded in the UK in my opinion: packaging.

By far, for me:

And for the UK:

Lots of good ones.

MoC’s Touch of Evil is great, as Ste7en says.

As for Apocalypse Now, this one beats the earlier release cited above:

A personal favourite is Criterion’s release of Orson Welles’s Othello:

No fancy packaging here, just the two 1950s cuts of the film, neither released on BD before, superb restoration, and a comprehensive set of extras. Fantastic job all around.

GLADIATOR (remastered) or THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Both have exceptional picture quality and about 10 hours of video supplements (not counting commentaries).

Well actually for Apocalypse Now its best to have the 6-disc UK one as pictured and cannibalise the older set for the booklets etc - that's what I've done anyway but you won't be able to fit the booklets inside the new set!

I have just kept both sets as-is, complete. I am not a fan of Frankenstein-ing multiple releases.

Have that too. But the Extras package in NOTD won by a head even without the Julian Karswell card. But I added the card virtually.

Criterions package of IAMMMMW is my second choice.

Eureka's Passion of Joan of Arc, Touch of Evil and African Queen are all great packages.

Arrow's LE of The Thing is what made me start paying more attention to the format. Grindhouse Releasing's The Swimmer is also nice, especially the LE which I sadly don't have.

The Steelbook version is a thing of beauty.

I’m really torn on this one - Criterion’s releases of Ace In The Hole and Ugetsu are 10/10 for everything - including their lovely covers and both are in my top 10 of all time.

MoC’s LE release of Metropolis is a thing of beauty - multiple versions, 100 page book, great cover and a ridiculous amount of extras.

Arrow’s LE release of Robocop (especially the steelbook) is flawless.

Then there’s the 4K release of 2001: A Space Odyssey..

I’ll get back to this thread

Agree - remiss of me to not mention this one too. The steelbook in particular is a thing of immaculate beauty!

Has to be Criterion's Andrei Rublev for me, what a package. Their release of Stalker has to be up there too given how incredible the restoration is, although the extras are a little lighter by comparison.

Hopefully the upcoming Dawn of the Dead release will be worthy of inclusion on any such list. I’m sure it will be.

I'm gonna go with the Harry Potter Collectors Editions. The big book shaped ones with the character cards and booklets

Peter Jackson's King Kong is a fantastic "off the rack" set, but I'd probably have to go with something Blade Runner related. If all the cuts were remastered and the extras were in HD, then it would be perfection.

In terms of how much it enhanced my enjoyment of the film definitely.

The recent German Arthaus release of Paris, Texas comes to mind along those lines as well, not that much in the way of extras(even if I could speak German) but the film looks incredible, maybe the best looking non UHD BR I'v seen.

The Indicator release of Birdy is very good as well, the film itself looks nice, typically interesting Parker(RIP) commentary, good booklet with more insights and a nice short film.
