Saw it tonight. Still not sure what I thought about it overall. I do know that I enjoyed it and at the very least that James McAvoy is amazing in it.

does M. Night Shamalamadingdong pull his normal "twist" at the end (not asking what the twist is) or is it fairly straight forward

My review of Split from the Movies section...
In the chilling opening scene of M. Night Shyamalan's new movie, Split, three girls are abducted from a parking lot in broad daylight. The girls wake up in a windowless room, where they soon learn that their captor, played by James McAvoy, exhibits multiple personalities, and that he is preparing them for a mysterious event. McAvoy's acting range is on full display here, as he cycles through a variety of roles before our eyes. Anya Taylor-Joy, as the most resourceful victim, delivers on the promise that she showed last year in the horror masterpiece, The Witch, and in the underrated sci-fi monster flick, Morgan. Years ago, Shyamalan emerged strong out of the gates with The Sixth Sense (1999), Unbreakable (2000), and Signs (2002), before he lost his edge with a series of weaker subsequent films. Split is not a perfect movie by any stretch, but it does demonstrate that the director has regained some of his old fire. As with his earlier works, Shyamalan succeeds in piecing together a taut and intense tale that mesmerizes during initial viewings, even if the narrative is a house of cards that threatens to topple under scrutiny. The film takes a few icky and unsettling turns during the final third, as it reveals its underlying theme about how trauma and hardship can often mold us into stronger people. I am still not sure how I feel about the last few scenes, but I can assure you that Split held me on the edge of my seat, and, for that reason, I recommend it as a fast-paced and riveting horror movie. Oh, and.... [Show spoiler]

I definitely disagree. IMO the film is really interesting and engrossing up to & even including the 3rd act. It's just that whether or not you get the "twist" will likely affect how you view the 3rd act.

The twist at the end is really not for everyone, BUT.....if you DO 'get it', then it will change the whole film you just saw. You just THINK you're seeing a suspense thriller, but that 'reveal' at the end completely changes the rules for the film. You will NEVER see it coming.
But if you DON'T get it, then you might leave the theater scratching your head about some of the things you just saw and wonder How...? What the...? Why...? The last 60 seconds explains it all. Just go with it. LOL. |

I liked this movie, but it thoroughly confused me with that ending and how it relates to other things(to put it in a non spoiler way), Also, at the end I realized this wasn't a horror movie-it was a thriller which kind was kind of disappointing but it was still well done. But The Visit is still the best-funny, scary, shocking...we need a part 2.
