Dragon Inn (1992, aka New Dragon Inn)

MLIFE Exclusive 025, Limited to 500 Sets, 2 types, with a 50p booklet and 46p playscript. Estimated Release date: January 2018

The blu-ray was sourced from the only HD master Diskino can get: the 2012 mainland China re-release source, which had the Chinese and English subtitles burnt-in. So the blu-ray will have forced Chinese and English subtitles since its on the only HD source.

If the film were getting a 2K restoration as stated then I imagine it would get some festival play before a Blu release. The film won the Golden Bear in 1988, so Berlinale 2018 would be the most logical venue to premiere it.

The restoration was done a few years ago and already shown in many film festivals. Red Sorghum is plan to release on early 2018, there are more classic Chinese films from Xi'an Film Studio will come after it.

After being burnt on the The Bride With White Hair release, probably going to have to pass. I haven't looked at pricing but if it's in the $60-$90 USD range, forget it! Might pay for a bare-bones release at a $10/20 price point!

"Burnt" how? I'm unfamiliar with The Bride With White Hair release. Is there some reason to avoid this company's releases?

this DRAGON INN is worthless to me with burnt in Chinese & English Subtitles, where are we? 1993?

I'm tempted, but I agree - the issue of burnt in subs is very disappointing - plus that suggests they're going to be the original theatrical subs, in Chinglish.
