Default Fudoh: The New Generation BD Takashi Miike (Media Blasters)

Saw there was a 4K UHD thread, but figured make a BD one too. Fudoh is now up for Pre-order! This is one of the most bat shit insane Japanese films and truly an interesting one. This was one of the first Japanese films I actually ever watched directed by Takashi Miike and really hope this one does well for Media Blasters as they are taking a chance making this a 4K. Show support and get a pretty wild movie while you're at it.

https://mb-storefront.com/products/f...0c5a4c8e&_ss=r

Riki Fudoh is a young man whose appearance is darkly deceptive… On the surface, he’s a model high school student, but beneath that exterior, he’s seething with homicidal hatred and a ruthless thirst for revenge! As a child, Riki witnessed the murder of his brother at the hands of his sadistic Yakuza crime lord father. Ever since then, Riki has been patiently biding his time for the opportunity to avenge his brother’s death. Now, Riki devises a clever plan to recruit his fellow classmates and assemble his own highly trained criminal youth assassin squad! Their single goal is to brutally eradicate the old regime of Yakuza bosses and seize control for the New Generation!

Hailed by critics the world over, FUDOH: THE NEW GENERATION is the film that brought director Takashi Miike to the attention of international cinema audiences. The film has won awards at numerous film festivals including the 1998 International Fantasy Film Special Award at the Portugal Fantasporto Film Festival. Prepare yourself to experience the extreme and virtuoso filmmaking of Takashi Miike in this intense and violent gangster thriller that set the pace for his later classics like Audition and Ichi The Killer! Extras include audio commentaries and video interviews with the director Takashi Miike and actor Shosuke Tanihara. This marks Media Blaster’s landmark first UHD release. (100 mins.)

(Limited Edition- 1,000 units/ Exclusive Packaging)

Bought it immediately

The first 10 minutes are just hysterical. I was very lucky to see it theatrically, and I was almost hyperventilating with laughter. The seemingly endless number of bullets being pumped into a restroom stall and the accompanying pool of blood seeping out, along with the balloon pop striptease trick endeared me to Miike for life

Early Takashi Miike films are gold IMO. Miike, and Nicolas Winding Refn's Pusher Trilogy, were my starting point into foreign cinema back in the day. Hopefully this stays up till I get paid.

I'm assuming there'll be a non exclusive release?

I’m really curious about the source used, as the original negative may be missing

Yeah, that opening scene in the restroom sold the film to me. Love Mickey Curtis too and wish he had worked with Miike a bit more.

I'm not 100%, but remember hearing end of September. Guessing October will be when it finally ships.

It seems like Mediablasters is just shipping to the US. Is there any place to get this to the EU? Will Diabolik or other distros have it available?

Surely the standard edition will be carried by other online retailers. It’ll just take some time and patience.

Didn’t know about this news until I saw this site five minutes ago and ordered the 4K (well, I think it’s the 4K as the site lists it as a BD) right away! One of Miike’s best and an awesome flick!

Update: Approvals slowed things down, a name had to be corrected on the sleeve, but Fudoh is in replication now. Shipping is expected to start in the next 2 weeks.

Fudoh is just about out of replication, and Media Blasters expects to ship in the next week or so.

Tried the standard Blu-ray from the limited edition set on my region-free player. The standard Blu-ray doesn't play when set to region B or C, so it is locked.
