Vudu has been forced to remove UHD and HD playback in some browsers because of DRM.

This is not a new issue for most streamers. Studios have been fighting with Netflix, Amazon, Google, Vudu/FandangNow about DRM and streaming quality vs piracy fears for years.

Due to a DRM issue affecting certain web browsers along at the request of the studios, Chrome and Firefox will only stream SD. Edge and Safari can still stream HDX. This is something that's being propagated with all digital providers.

For now, if you want to watch Vudu in HD on a browser, you need to use Edge or Safari.

Now being reported on other devices and platforms:

• A user reporting "MoviesAnywhere app on the new Chromecast with Google TV was updated just a few days ago to support 4K, and then that 4K support was just disabled today."

• Another user reporting their built-in Vudu TV App is being affected/downgraded and will only play titles in SD.

If you get a HDCP error while trying to play a title from any streaming service using a browser or built in app on a streaming device or TV, try downgrading your default play quality to SD and see if that fixes the non-playing issue/error.




You also may need to replace your HDMI cable if it is an older HDCP standard connecting your device with the HD/UHD playback issue and output screen.
(This is not a new issue, just part of troubleshooting for anyone trying to work through this DRM inflicted playback quality issue.)
