United Kingdom The Howling

Been a long time coming, but looks like StudioCanal are finally releasing Joe Dante's THE HOWLING on UK Blu-ray in time for Halloween...

Excellent news!

Fingers crossed that it has the original mono mix. A new transfer would be great too but I'm not holding my breath.

Yup, I'm assuming like Carpenter's They Live and Craven's Shocker this'll be similar to the SF release in terms of PQ (and possibly extras as well). Still, it'll be a decent one to pick up at some point and hopefully can be snapped up for a low price - think I paid a tenner for They Live not long after release.

Good timing for more Dante - Warner Bros are also porting Innerspace to the UK soon. Silly but I quite enjoyed that one, and will definitely pick it up at some point too!

They Live actually looks better then the Scream BD.

I do like it, so is good news, but I'm not certain that I would actually pick it up day one. Perhaps I might if it's not too expensive (money is a bit tight at the moment and I promised my wife I would only buy the occasional blu-ray). Will be interesting to see the launch price. I'd be reluctant to pay more than around 12 pounds anyway as I've never been a particularly hardcore fan of the film.

Love The Howling.

Already have the French, German & US releases. Not expecting a new transfer as they've all been pretty much identical so far. Would buy again if there were any new extras though.

I have a custom set featuring all the extras from the various DVD sets incl the uncut Dutch extras, deleted scenes & Dante self shot porn flick filmed in his garage

Would be nice to have it all in one set.

Until I read your post, I wasn't even aware that there were French and German releases. Had a look at the respective Amazon sites to see if they could be picked up cheap nowadays. The French version was almost 20 euros plus shipping and the German version was a shocking 39 euros plus shipping. Think it's for the best if I just wait for the UK version.

It's the porn flick that Dee Wallace is watching in the booth when she goes to meet Eddie Quist.

It only lasts a few minutes but it's the full thing.

Only available on the Dutch DVD set, it was rejected by the BBFC for the DVD release over here. probably oop now.

Sorry yes, I knew this already but I meant a non-stupid priced version. That said, Zavvi often reduce their steelbooks if they don't sell well so could be sub-£10 before you know it (in which case I might bite if it's cheaper than the Amaray).

Nice, will add this to my collection. Think I've seen part of it once in my early teens, but can't remember much.

I used to have the Danish DVD set, it was on there. I can see why the BBFC rejected it back then, who knows what they would make of it now. I thought they would have taken issue with the raw footage from Videodrome, because one of the reasons why the BBFC rejected 'Fake porn movie' was because it 'was divorced from the original context', or something like that.

I have the original German DVD with the porn flick, but that got withdrawn pretty quickly. I opted for the Italian Blu Ray of this as it has the extras from the old laserdisc I used to own. I should imagine that the UK disc will just recycle the existing Studio Canal extras.

Is this really a 'brand new restoration' as the (rather bad) cover boasts? I'd gladly double-dip if so.

I hope so. The film REALLY needs a new transfer.
