Default new a/v receiver?

Hey guys,im looking to buy a receiver in particular the pioneer vsx1017tx.
I would like your thoughts on this receiver, cost is 500 canadian.
Would i be better off maybe even upgrading a little more into something
that has HD audio also or is there much difference between HD audio or non
HD audio?I was going to limit my self at 500 bucs, but i would consider around
600.Im guessing anthing that supports HD audio is going to cost more then an
extra 100.Thanks guys your thoughts would be much appreciated.

IMHO, save and extra $100 or 2 and look at something like the Onkyo TX SR605. As far as recievers go it decodes anything on the market right now with HDMI version 1.3a connectivity. If you're gonna plop down that kind of money better go Hi Def.

Pioneer is coming out with the vsx1018tx in June for $599 American dollars. I saw it at CES and it looked nice. I have been debating if I should wait until June or go for a Onkyo 605, 705, or 805 now.

Here is link for the Pioneer.

I concur 100%... the receiver in a home theater setup is like the processor in a computer. It needs to be the heart and soul of your entertainment area. As such, you want it to be top notch so that as you switch out components throughout the years, you still have the receiver that is capable of maintaining the quality of those components. The Onkyo 605 is really decent, the 705 would be better, and the 805 is clearly an investment that will last for a decade. Pricey, definitely... but you get what you pay for. Take the time to save up some more. Good things are worth waiting for.

I`ll get back to you on this in 3 days. I live in Canada too and I ordered the Onkyo TX-SR805. I`ll let you know how it is and also how much you can expect to pay to get it over here. (This receiver is $1200+ in Canada).
