Default People getting tricked on deal sites!

UPDATE 1/22/08

Despite most people with some common sense realizing that the format war is now more or less over, there are still a few very vocal hd dvd kamikaze fanboys trying to trick people into buying hd dvd players on various deal sites, making it look like they're getting a super deal

These people keep posting new threads almost daily lately with the latest price drop of the Toshiba A3/A30 etc on Amazon, Tigerdirect and similar, trying every way they can to trick people into buying their dead format of choice

Whether the format war is over or not, I think it's time some more BLU supporters get in there and make sure that NOONE gets tricked into wasting their money on a DUD ever again.

I'm gonna try to keep this thread updated with the latest socalled hddvd 'deals', so everyone can help out informing the uninformed, and disputing the FUD from the hopeless fanboys.

These are the latest DUD deals that I've come across:
Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD Player + 7 HD-DVDs for $125.00 SHIPPED @ Amazon!!!!! (NEW 1/22)
Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD Player + 7 HD-DVDs for $129.99 SHIPPED!!!!!
Toshiba HD-A3 - HD DVD Player w/ 1080i Resolution $126 w/ coupon or $122 AGCO + FS

Obviously no FUD or lies necessary, just point out the facts and remember to put thumbs down on the deals, as that's how most people search for deals on sites like this.

If you've seen a deal thread not included here, let me know and I'll add it.

Remember, the sooner people completely stop buying hd dvd players, the sooner Paramount & Universal will switch to BLU

To be fair, it is a deal.

Just needs to be realized -why- the deal is happening.

I'm bidding on one on eBay. I won't go higher than $50, though.

no matter how low the prices go there still not worth it, but people will still buy them cause they either don't know any better or already own HDDVD players.

I've noticed a very similar thing but it has been going on for months. There is a very dedicated team of HD DVD fanboys that push these "deals" on the various bargain forums, trying to lure in the bargain hunters. It wouldn't surprise me if these posters are paid stealth marketers from Toshiba. They post these deals suspiciously fast. One guy admitted to something like this on HDD already.

Unfortunately, the same crowd is too cheap to buy HD movies. You'll see them say I can buy the DVD and up'vert it and it's just like HD without spending the money. Anyway, all you can hope for is that they do research before buying...

And if they are buying an HD-DVD player, I'd wonder if they have even done enough research to realize they need an HDTV hehe

And when they go out and find that most of the high-def movies they want to watch are not playable on a HD-DVD player, how many of these customers will try to return their purchases?

There are a number of people/companies that all they do is go around and purchase discontinued or obsolete items in bulk from the wholesalers, manufacturers, and liquidators and then turn around and sell them on eBay and the internet.

IMO everyone should be prepared to see a lot of HD-DVD movies and Toshiba HD-DVD players at "clearance" pricing on the internet over the upcoming months.

How do you know they are all getting tricked? I had 2 friends who are BD all the way, go out and purchase them in the past week, not because they think HD DVD is gonna go anywhere, just that they want to watch some of the movies that are exclusive for it right now. $129.99 is not much money at all, and to watch a few movies then either discard it when its totally dead, or just keep it as an oddity, who cares? This is the same arguement you could use for pretty much most video games systems. Why did stores still sell n64 games when the gamecube came out? Shouldnt they have just pulled all the n64 systems and games and thrown them away since it was discontinued and was a dead item?

haha, everytime there's a hd-dvd deal on slickdeals.net, a raging arguement ensues about the dying format. its pretty funny, b/c you can obviously tell who the fan boys are.

i always have to get a jab or 2 in on them.

I would agree. $129 is still a bit too high for me, but if the players drop to $80 or so and movies at $8-10 it would be very tempting.

Dont matter really, all Tosh is doing trying to empty their supply. Is cheaper to take a hit on them than having to store or dispose of them

I never said that "everyone" is getting tricked. If people make an informed decision to buy a dead format, just to be able to play a couple of hd dvd exclusive titles until Paramount/Universal decides to go Blu, then hey, fine it's your money.

What I don't like are these hd dvd fanboys putting up thread after thread with new socalled "deals" on hd dvd players as if nothing happened and it "just happens" to be really really cheap RIGHT NOW, saying stuff like "GO GO GO!!". Unless people inform these people what's going on, there might be some un/misinformed people thinking 'hey, that's a good price for a hi-def player', realizing too late that their $130 deal turns into a $130 brick.

Just consider that the sooner Toshiba realizes that noone's buying their players, the sooner they'll throw in the towel
