I am super cautious about this happening but would LOVE to see it happen. The first is one of my favorite musicals. I saw it in theaters during its initial run and it was such a fun experience. I even drove a couple hours the summer before last to catch it in theaters again with the Fathom event.

I feel like musicals just get more and more popular as time goes on. We don't get that many of them but the few we get seem to be successful. La La Land, Greatest Showman, and the second Mamma Mia were all big hits. I obviously wouldn't expect a sequel to be anywhere near as successful as those but one could potentially gross more than the original. I especially feel like it would do better internationally than the original.

Anyway, here's hoping one happens.

I'm in the UK and only heard of the original film because a friend of mine knows Jim Sturgess. It's a film that I like quite a bit even though I think it doesn't entirely work.

I'd watch a second film but can't say that I'm in desperate need of it.

Besides a few moments of brilliance (like the I Want You scene), the first movie was pretty poor with wasted potential and just style over substance. And I say this as someone who loves musicals, even out there ones like Anna and the Apocalypse and Repo! The Genetic Opera. Hopefully this one will maybe be better than the first but it also has the possibility to be even worse. I wonder if they'll bring the original cast back.

That's the plan. Sounds like Jim Sturgess and Evan Rachel Wood are game.
