Default Pretty in Pink

I'm still shocked that after all these years, this one is still not on Blu Ray (even though you can download the HD movie from iTunes, Vudu, etc.) They missed a golden opportunity last year during the film's 30th anniversary. I just noticed that at http://www.paramount.com/movies/pretty-pink, it says "Now on Blu-Ray and Digital HD"...but it is not on Blu Ray...way to get my hopes up Paramount!

Yes, it's tough to believe that the iconic '80's teen film PIP still isn't on Blu yet. It's an extremely well-done film with a great story, good acting, and an incredible soundtrack.

Even though I never saw this back in the '80's, I do remember hearing songs from the film as a teen - notably OMD's "If you Leave", "Bring on the Dancing Horses", "Pretty in Pink", "Left of Center", etc. And, I had bought the soundtrack on CD long before actually seeing the film. Very iconic, and the scenes the songs were played over were very appropriate. The soundtrack remains one of my favorite movie soundtracks of all time.

The message about looking beyond someone's financial/social position in life & instead finding value in the type of person they are was quite powerful, and a good message/life lesson for anyone, no matter how old you are.

The scene when MR had the conversation with her father (played by Harry Dean Stanton) about her mother leaving the family years before was quite poignant. Very deep for an '80's teen film.

It was cool that the MR character worked at a record store. I'm a huge music fan, and it was nice to see this element in the film - especially since many dedicated record stores like this one have all closed in the past 5-10 years.

I suspect one of the reasons this film may not be on Blu yet are because of music rights?! I know that's one of the reasons many films/TV shows have not been released to home video over the years. However, since PIP did come out DVD years ago with all of the original music still intact, maybe I'm wrong about this....

I think the rules on music rights have changed over the years.
Recently Mill Creek was able to release Quantum Leap on Bluray with all the music restored that was missing or replaced on the dvd.

And quite a few notable films that were released to home video with adjusted soundtracks have been reissued in their original form including Hughes 16 Candles.
As you say, PIP is uncut on dvd so a Bluray should be a no brainer - even in a 3 pack with Some Kind of Wonderful and She's Having A Baby

It's absurd that some classic titles like this still have no blu-ray release. I just don't get it. There are the most obscure titles, things that 10 people ahve heard of, that have blu-ray release. Some Kind Of Wonderful still doesn't either. Beyond bizarre.
