Default Dirt 5

. The DualSense is great. When we got the tech demo up and running the whole studio came around and everyone wanted a go. It offers something new and unique and we felt it fits really well for racing, especially for a game with such diversity of content and cars.

The power of the PS5 also means that we will have an option for 120fps, which is very exciting for the racers who know that every frame counts.

First up is the Cross Raid. These have been made specifically to overcome tough terrain, and combines speed, strength, durability, and features the Volkswagen Race Touareg 3.

The Rock Bouncer features huge wheels, mad suspension and a big rollcage, so it should come as no surprise to find out that this class is purpose-built to conquer the most intimidating terrain.

Next up is the Rally Cross, which has become a staple of the DiRT franchise. These are designed for all-terrain, speed and getting sideways as soon as possible, and features the likes of the Peugeot 208 WRX and Citroen C3 R5.

The Formula Off Road houses the WS Auto Racing Mudclaw, and is the place to go when you want to navigate any terrain as fast as possible.

Classic Rally meanwhile features iconic vehicles popularised by the concept of going fast and flat-out on any terrain, featuring the Fiat 131 Abarth Rally to the Porsche 924 GTS Rallye.

Players looking for some nostalgia can find a number of classics in 80s Rally, combining favourites such as the Ford RS200 with newcomers including the Porsche 959 Prodrive Rally Raid.

90s Rally celebrates the decade when off-road went mainstream with the likes of the Subaru Impreza S4 and Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI.

Moving on, Rally GT focuses on more desirable cars that have been fitted out with off-road specs, such as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage GT-4 and Porsche 911 R-GT.

The DIRT 5 Sprint class is dedicated to our truly incredible sprint car, sporting wheels of all different sizes, huge wings and 900bhp – perfect to rip up dirt oval tracks and get sideways. A unique class for a unique racing experience.

For Pre Runners, think of the best road-going SUVs and all-purpose vehicles. Now think of them draped on off-road kit and suped-up for extreme racing. That’s the Pre-Runners class, featuring incredible race-ready versions of the Aston Martin DBX and more to be revealed soon.

Super Lites. Low on excess weight, high on action, these rockets have power-to-weight ratios that’ll make your eyes water. Have fun taming the Ariel Nomad Tactical, Exomotive Exocet Off-Road, and more. These compact cars are built for all-terrain speed and an all-out assault on the senses.

Finally, there’s the Unlimited class. Trucks. Big trucks. Trucks built for the most demanding off-road events in the world. Trucks that’ll give you the confidence to floor it and power over all the rugged terrain DIRT 5 has to offer. Jump in the Jimco Unlimited Truck, Brenthel Industries Unlimited Truck and more and show the most challenging events who’s really in charge.

I suppose this will be the first big DF comparison video when the next-gen finally launches. Good to hear they are able to get up to 120fps.

So from the creators of Motorstorm and Driveclub comes a game that looks like a cross between both of those titles! Nice to see that someone at Codemasters listened to the ex-Evolution Studios devs and created this game. Never played a Dirt title before, but this has me interested.

I like how this basically confirms what we suspected after the release of Dirt Rally 2.0. That the main numbered entries in the series will be arcade focused while those with the "Rally" moniker will cater to those looking for a more hardcore, sim focused challenge. So yeah, I can't really complain at this point.

Being said that, I really hope this fills the Sega Rally shaped hole in my heart when this releases. I loved the '07 entry of that series.

Release date delayed to Nov 10 so it can be a next gen launch title for Xbox Series.

Looks fun, though if it was open map, it'd be even more fun IMO.

I just noticed the developers of Dirt 5 are targeting a 120 fps mode. There's a great Digital Foundry conversation about it here:

I don't know about anyone else, but I need to see how this one works out.

I feel like this will be a poor looking game no matter the console, I hate twitter Sony fan accounts thinking the PS5 will make this game look better than what the XSX gameplay & graphics currently shows.

The amount of screen tear in the gameplay videos that have been posted today is awful. Just looks like a really bad port all in all. Not surprising when it needs to play on 5 different kinds of Xbox, 3 different PlayStations as well as PCs.

Do you think we will have to wait until November for the full DF side-by-side comparison?

I blame the poor next gen visuals on cross gen development but to be fair their engine has always been bad for screen tearing so probably should have expected that. Monaco in the F1 games in particular used to be really bad for the tearing.

Well the PS5 version is coming out later so there is always the slight potential the extra time could polish off a few things. They also said PS5 was easy to develop for so if they found XSX/XSS harder to develop for it could have also caused some issues. But even with these things it would be minor differences at best and isn't going to magically make the PS5 version look next gen. The big thing to hope for is that the PS5 doesn't have the horrible load times.

The PS5 version doesn't have a release date so who knows when a full comparison of all versions will even be possible.

I feel like the massive bottleneck on the XSX is gonna cause more issues for devs than the slight discrepancy in raw TF.

Series X throughput is "only" 2.4GBps RAW vs the 5.5GBps RAW on PS5.It feel like that's going to make a bigger difference than we realise.
