Default How much is BD outselling HD DVD?

Hi,

I know that bluray is outselling hddvd by 2:1 in america according to Nielson data (3:1 since 2008 ). Also, I know it's outselling hddvd in europe and japan too but I don't know by how much in term of percentage.would you please provide me links that clarify this matter ? I need it urgently.

Thanks in advance.

I was doing my research on this last year - prior to the Warner announcement. Basically I was trying to pick a winner so I could order the Blade Runner deluxe set, and I wanted to make sure I picked the right format. I didn't have to look too far for 2007 sales figures to see that HDDVD was ****ing DEAD. Even after Paramount moved. I honestly thought Transformers and Shrek may have had a slight impact but neither of those two films have even managed a number 1 HD sales spot.

Europe was about 70:30 Blu Ray to HDDVD - before the Warner announcement

Japan was 96:4 Blu Ray to HDDVD - before the Warner announcement

Australia was 95:5 Blu Ray to HDDVD - before the Warner announcement

Seriously, there was no contest in the US. And looking at the rest of the world it was a foregone conclusion. Take the whole HD format war outside of the US (please, think of the billions of people OUTSIDE of the US) and it was a non-issue. HD DVD wasn't even a pimple on the butt of sales anywhere else in the world.

And you know what else makes a joke of the figures? You raise these figures in the international community, and the HDDVD ********s say "well the sales figures are so LOW in Australia/Europe/Japan as HDDVD is region FREEEEEEE, so we are buying HDDVDs from America as they are SOOOO CHEEEEEP there!!!". So you realise what that means? A pretty good proportion of the HDDVD sales in the US were from outside of the US. So the domestic HDDVD sales have been even shittier than they appear.

Warner. Warner had the own actual internal sales to make their call on. They could release stuff in both formats and see which sold more. They did this for over a year. And again and again the blu ray way outsold the HDDVD. Take "300". 70:30 Blu:HDDVD in the US. Elsewhere in the world, noone even bothered with the HDDVD version

Yea, funny how the split was closest in the USA. I don't know if that means we like cheap or are uniformed. IMHO advertising for HD-DVD was much higher and better for a long time in my area but I went Blu after researching the formats. At any rate glad the tide has turned and we are closer to the rest of the worlds splits.

We well see the next spike when June 1 comes around. Perhaps the final blow considering how quiet Universals release schedule has been.

They have 2 movies on schedule so far that's it.

For some reason, there are people in the U.S. that have a blind, unfounded hatred of Sony.

I've noticed that many HD-DVD buyers fall into that category.

Think about that one for a minute.

They may not admit it, hell they might have like an A3 or a previous HD-DVD player in their signature, but I have no doubt that one and all they're Microsoft/360/Xbox fans.

It's like the Mac vs PC stuff. One side has a unwavering hate of the other for no apparent reason.

Xbox 360 fans hate Sony because Sony has constantly laid a whuppin on Microsoft since the Xbox came out, it's only with the 360 {and a year-long head start} that they can claim superiority.

Funny thing is before the 360 came out the bleedin hypocrites were saying 'but Sony had such a head start with the PS2 it's not fair!' now when the shoe is on the other foot there's no issue.

Take the poster on HDD for example: Do you honestly think that he didn't just get out of diapers 10 years ago? That he's not a rabid Xbox fan?

So your "first" and "cheap" statement represents two opposite times in the lifetime of HD-Dead.

When they were "first", they were not "cheap".

Player prices didn't go down until after the Blu beatdowns started.

You're right, there's no doubt Microsoft lovers are having an impact on HD-DVD's survival.

Yeah true but PS 3 owners are having an impact on HD-DVD's survival too.. I fit into both catogories as well, I'm a movie loving BD and HD-DVD owner but the stupid fanboyism that has plagued gaming over the years I've never understood.

Also as far as Europe goes it was'nt long back that Toshiba themselves said they'd sold 15,000 HD-DVD stand-alone players in the European Territories and that was just a few weeks before Sony's press release of hitting a million PS 3's in Europe.. if you even insanely say that there's only 5% of those that are buying Blu-rays on a regular basis then thats still 50,000.. 3.33 Blu-rays to 1 HD-DVD..(I'm aware that I'm not taking into consideration the add-on for the 360 but hey if Toshiba can ignore the Ps 3 in it's comparison figures then I'm sure as hell I can manipulate the figures too... )

Besides all that people can spout what they want on amazon, forums etc like they do but honestly.. without majority studio support any platforms going nowhere fast.. give it away for free, without the films to play on it your not going to gather mainstream adoption.

Default Interesting number from radio show Blu-ray vs. HD DVD this morning

Just caught minutes aggo a report on the "format War" on KTAR NewsTalk Phoenix.
HD DVD fanboys would be quick to point out that they get their news from ABC, but there would be little point in skewing numbers, and they could get caught esily.

They were reporting that Blu Ray is clearly winning (not really a news), but at the end couldn't prevent themselves to ad some little FUD about downloads possibly taking over.

The number I thought was kinda "Woah!" was when they revealed that on the week end of January 12th, Blu Ray players outsold HD DVD players (standalones both sides) by a Whoopin' - 90% -. Practically a 2:1 on players alone.
I was like .. Woah!

Actually it was higher than 90%. but yeah, we've known about that for weeks.
Cool that it was on a radio show! Kinda sux that they fall for propaganda.
The HD downloads market do not make even half the amount the disc market does, let alone standard def.
People should not report on something, unless they know the facts to back them up.
