‘The Boondock Saints III’ is “Definitely in the Works,” Says Norman Reedus

Even by cult film standards, Troy Duffy‘s The Boondock Saints is a divisive one. Defenders love the off-kilter McManus boys and their dedication to vigilante ultraviolence; detractors (myself included) find it to be Tarantino lite without any of the master filmmaker’s originality, intelligence, or soul. You need only look at the film’s 17% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 93% user approval rating to see that all moviegoers are decidedly not on the same page here.

With the dismal box office performance of the 2009 sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, it started to look like public opinion had turned against the McManuses. But apparently, some fans remain convinced there’s still more territory to explore with the brothers. And not surprisingly, the director and stars are among them. According to The Walking Dead actor Norman Reedus, who played Murphy, a Boondock Saints movie is being cooked up at this very moment. More after the jump.



Reedus spilled the beans in an interview with IFC about The Walking Dead. “I’m in L.A. right now,” he told the site. “I’m meeting with [star] Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.”

This isn’t the first time the idea of more Boondock Saints has been floated. A little over a year ago, director Troy Duffy told press that he had been “approached” about a possible television series, and that Reedus and Flanery were prepared to drop everything to sign on. But the TV project doesn’t seem to have gained much traction, and it sounds like now the focus is on getting the property back to the big screen. The feature doesn’t seem to be too far along at this point — there’s no script that we know of yet — but Duffy, Flanery, and Reedus sure seem determined to continue the Boondock Saints property one way or another. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
