The Crow (butchered by the MPAA to get an R rating)
Evil Dead (2013) (We all know there's tons of deleted stuff and more gore. The director even said he plans on releasing an extended cut....) Total Recall (1990) (butchered by the MPAA to get an R rating) Machete (Rodriguez said he'd like to do a Director's Cut with entirely new subplots and characters... but nothing yet) Resident Evil: Afterlife (the studio probaly cut like 20 minutes or so) Resident Evil: Retribution (the studio probaly cut like 20 minutes or so) Cobra (studio cut many subplots and the MPAA butchered it to get an R rating) Rocky V (studio changed so much, the original DC is supposed to be a pretty good movie actually) |

Frozen (butchered by the MPAA to get a G rating. We all know there's tons of deleted stuff and sex and gore. The studio probably cut like 2 hours.)

Ken Russell's original cut of The Devils desperately needs a home video release. Unfortunately Warners US are uptight as **** and won't allow it to happen. When the BFI finally issued a UK DVD a few years ago, they were only granted access to the X-rated theatrical release (which had been cut by both the censors and the studio).
A totally uncut version of The Last House on the Left would be nice. I was chatting to Roy Frumkes once via e-mail and he explained that the version widely available is basically a Craven-approved cut which reconstructs most of the material deleted from the film over the years, but not all of it. Wes' sensibilities had changed and he felt certain things were best left to the imagination, hence why the disembowelment is so brief. With Craven having passed, I guess we'll never seen the complete version. I'd also love to see a director's cut of Batman Forever. It was heavily rumoured for a while leading up to the special edition DVD in 2005, but it never happened for some reason. Honourable mentions: uncut Freaks (half an hour of disturbing content was omitted), uncut versions of most of the Friday the 13th sequels, a director's cut of Dune (shame Lynch has practically disowned it), an extended cut of Jacob's Ladder (those deleted scenes are fantastic and should be in the film), etc etc etc etc etc. Last edited by dallywhitty; 08-26-2016 at 01:04 AM. |

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is the ultimate for me. Screened on the rare occasion but never released on home video.
I always watch both Volumes back-to-back anyway, but it needs to be one film. The version screened at Cannes and the New Beverly removes the ending of Volume 1 where [Show spoiler] And there's also the unedited Crazy 88 fight in color. Last edited by spanky87; 08-26-2016 at 01:38 AM. |

The Golden Compass - Chris Weitz filmed a three-hour adaptation that apparently nailed all of the book's themes and characterizations. New Line got cold feet about such an epic and somber film, hoping to appeal to a wider demographic. They cut 45 minutes' worth of footage, including the ending. To cover up the glaring holes, they did some awkwardly-placed reshoots, ADR, and re-arranged the order of scenes.
Weitz has said the film needs another million or so to finish the visual effects, which isn't viable considering how much the film lost domestically (it was a huge hit internationally, but New Line had sold off the foreign rights in order to pay for the film's ballooning budget). I'd be totally okay with a rough workprint of the three-hour cut. Content means more to me than presentation. Harry Potter - The directors are all happy with the theatrical cuts (even though Mike Newell once said he was unhappy with having to remove 20 minutes of off Goblet of Fire, but I can't for the life of me find the interview). However, Steve Kloves (and Michael Goldenberg for Order of the Phoenix) came up with screenplays that are remarkably consistent with each other. I've read most of them, and a lot of the grief he gets for leaving out certain plot points and moments were actually there in the shooting scripts and sacrificed in the editing room. Based on the shooting scripts and the elements I know to have been filmed, we're missing approximately 10 minutes of Prisoner of Azkaban, 20 minutes of Goblet of Fire, a whopping 45 minutes of Order of the Phoenix, 10 minutes of Half-Blood Prince, and 25 minutes for Deathly Hallows (15 for Part 1, 10 for Part 2). Extended cuts for the series would clear up unexplained elements like Priori Incantatem in Goblet of Fire, the context of the prophecy in Order of the Phoenix, the unplottability of the Room of Requirement in Half-Blood Prince, and the existence of Teddy Lupin in Deathly Hallows. There are all sorts of callbacks, foreshadowing, and character moments we never got to see for the sake of moving the plots along. Up until a month ago, I was sure WB was holding back so they could release extended cuts, but after what happened with the Middle Earth fiasco, I'm starting to worry if we'll ever see this footage anytime soon. |

I imagine we will get a longer Suicide Squad at some point (seeing how Batman v. Superman did).
The unrated Dead Presidents is on laserdisc but since Disney doesn't license to Criterion anymore, a Blu-ray release is unlikely. My personal choices: - the first cut of Her with Samantha Morton as the OS - the three-hour cut of Annie Hall with the mystery plot - the first cut of September with Christopher Walken - the four-hour cut of The Man with the Iron Fists (before Eli Roth hacked it down to 96 minutes) - the first cut of The Magnificent Ambersons (too bad it's lost forever) - and even though I've never seen the film, I'd love to see the NC-17 cut of The Brothers Grimsby Sacha Baron Cohen was talking about before release |

A director's cut of Deadly Friend, on the other hand, sounds like a much more difficult thing to happen with Craven's passing. |
