Default Will Disney titles ever be available in 4K on ITunes?

I know it’s likely that nobody here has a definitive answer to this question, but just in case does anyone know anything or even heard rumors one way or the other about this?

I’d love to buy some Disney titles (Star Wars, Marvel etc,) but I’m very hesitant because I fear Disney will never allow Apple to sell their films in 4K. Also, I am concerned that Disney’s new streaming app may further complicate the issue.

With my luck I will purchase all the Star Wars films on iTunes to find out the next day they will never be available on Apple.

What’s happening in now in tvOS 13 beta on Apple TV 4K, the Vudu app is stating for Disney 4K movies “We don’t have a version of this content on Apple TV” during playback. Movies Anywhere is doing the same thing at random times or not playing the Disney 4K movies. This issue could coming from the tvOS 13 beta or it could be a sign that Disney will not allow their 4K movies to played on the Apple TV 4K.

Is this a corroborated issue being discussed somewhere, as I’m interested to read how prevalent this may be and if it is definitely something to be concerned about?

I know this doesn’t really hep you, but..
Disney would allow Apple to sell 4K movies, it’s just that Disney won’t allow free 4K upgrades from HD and they want a $5 premium for 4K over HD, two things Apple wants for consistency with other studios.

I appreciate what Apple is doing in regards to keeping 4K and HD prices the same. However, I would still rather be able to watch Disney content in UHD using Itunes than saving $5.

Don’t think you should just jump to conclusions because you’ve got an issue. I am also on the beta and have just gone into Vudu to check. I’ve randomly played a number of 4K Disney/marvel movies and they’ve all been fine. Bit ridiculous to go straight to Disney are preventing their movies being played in 4K on Apple TV. Lol

This issue happens when you start the Disney 4K movies in Vudu and fast forwarding the movie to random spots. I’m on tvOS Beta 13.

That’s some big jump from something you describe as being a bug to the conclusion that it could be a sign that Disney will not allow 4K playback on ATV4K.

So you started the movie...it played in 4K...you randomly fast forwarded and had an issue...and somehow you think that means Disney is going to block 4K playback and not perhaps that it could be an issue with Vudu and the beta app? Makes sense.

I’ve also just tried fast forwarding to random spots and I could not reproduce your issue and I’m also on the beta.

Agreed 100%. I started my digital collection on Apple and would much prefer to not have to buy Disney films on other platforms...Disney’s greed is legendary.

Disney titles are now available in 4K on Google Play. So Itunes is now one of the only places that will only do Disney in HD

Are they upgrading HD to 4k though for Disney?

Will a split 4K Google Play code now redeem 4K in Google Play?

Best way to check would likely be use a 4K code and put it the redeem site. Normally on the next screen where you select the provider, it would only show MA and Vudu as having 4K (as evidenced by the gold 4K banner beside it).

Once Disney+ is up and running full stream ahead all Disney movies will only be available on Disney+ no more blu-rays or DVDs from Disney and they will pull all their movies from all other streaming services...

Pull their content from other streaming services yes that’s very much a certainty, however money talks and if a service is willing to pay then I’m sure Disney won’t turn them down.
It’s absurd to think there will be no more blu-rays or DVDs from Disney, just what makes you think they’ll give up that rather large chunk of revenue?

FUD. There will still be DVD's & Blu's and you will still be able to buy Digital copies. You just will see little to no Disney stuff on other SVOD services (Netflix, Prime, etc.).

Apple is getting ****ed by a company who's CEO is on it’s very own board. You really can’t make this stuff up. I wish Steve Jobs was still around for stuff like this. This would’ve been handled first with him, but because Tim Cook is so soft this has been dragged out. I really don't understand why Apple can’t get Disney to bite. Offer them a sweet deal(exclusivity on Disney promotions for Disney+/other content on all Apple devices/services, subsidize a Disney section in the itunes store to give them prime marketing location for their movies/music/apps, subsidize a Disney section at Apples brick and mortar locations for exclusive Disney/Apple products like beats headphones/cases,etc). If they don't bite then offer something not so sweet. Denying Apple 4K distribution rights for a rate that almost ALL studios have agreed to leaves Apple in a position where they have to protect their assets and market share on hardware & services. In that case remove Bob Igor from the board of directors, suspend all products/services in partnership with Disney, and remind Disney that Apple still has 1 Trillion dollars and they are gonna **** with Disney back.

I don't want it to get to there, I believe in longterm healthy buisness relations, but this is really getting to the point where Apple is getting punched in the face and kicked on the floor and people watching are screaming “FIGHT BACK ALREADY”. This needs to get done by the end of the year or Apple stands to loose a significant amount of market share they will struggle to get back
