Thanks for posting. Will look into a possible blind buy on this one..if the reviews are at least decent regarding the movie and the 3D.

I'm STARVING for some new 3D content.

UFAlien, what were some things you would change or add to improve the results of the movie?
Was the 3D weak, or just average?

I was considering this one in theaters for the 3D, but the previews just showed mostly jokes and little about the story or what type of adventure the characters might be going on. I held off in the end because of that. The skit with the Deli was a start, but needed more info in the trailer IMO.
The 3D trailer had good 3D at any rate.
Very colorful movie.

Just read the review, and in someways the review doesnt match the ratings given 5's when there are noted cases of "lack of 3d depth"? Surely that would impact the final mark?

Anyway...I'm really liking this part of the review:

Escape from Planet Earth ships with both its 2D and 3D version on separate discs in the same box; at this time there are no individual releases, so those wanting only 2D will be stuck buying a 3D copy along with it.

This to me is how all movies intended to be and released in cinema's in 3D should be released to the market....it's time that the 3D barrow was pushed a litle more. Buyers can get and watch the 2d version, but have the 3D version there to possibly persuade them to upgrade to 3D to get the "real feel/intention" of the movie....

That sounds logical, but when looking, only the VIDEO was given a 5 rating, the 3D portion was rated as 4 which seems more accurate to the written review.

Blu-ray review
Movie 3.5
Video 5.0
3D 4.0
Audio 5.0
Extras 2.5
Overall 4.0

Escape from Planet Earth
This will be $20 at target
and will be $25 at bestbuy, who will price match target.
Not a bad price for for a 3 disc combo pack.

I'll be picking this up for sure. I'm happy with the 19.99 price.

Agreed. 100%
They did it with Dredd 3D. And at 19.99, no one can argue "I don't want to pay extra for 3D!". Of course if it does cost more for the company to make, then I can understand.
And the other argument is "By offering one disc for 2D and 3D, it reduces the quality of the 2D version". Which is understandable if I could spot see the difference.

Great deal for a day one release.
The review was good.
I just wish the blue characters had more texturing on them. For now, they're just blank colors. Just a nit pick on computer animated films. I prefer more texture and detail, even if the characters look cartoony, as done with How to Train your Dragon.
I'll probably buy this for 20 bucks. Great deal, thanks.

I did a blind buy on this one and I'm sure glad I did. The art and animation, while not up to the standards of the major development houses like Pixar, DreamWorks, Disney or Blue Sky, is still pretty good in its own right. The 3D effects are consistently well done throughout the movie with good depth, the occasional pop-out effect and no ghosting. Where it suffers is with the story and characters. The movie has no charm and the humor falls flat most of the time. I still like the movie, however, because it looks so damn good in 3d.

The 3D disc contains nothing but the feature, not even subtitles. What. The. Hell? Now I'm not deaf by any means, but no subtitle options is quite unacceptable.

Yeah, same here. I was about to stop on my way home to buy it, but second guessed the decision to add it to my collection. Next week it'll jump in price no doubt.

Thanks for the review. Are there a lot of city scenes with buildings? I like that environment for an animated movie.

Yes, that is barebones for a major studio release. Even Dredd 3D has subtitles, also released at 19.99 opening day in 3D blu ray.
