I really liked both, The Bridge On The River Kwai and Ben-Hur, but my vote goes to Ben-Hur because of Charlton Heston's amazing performance and it being such a memorable movie.

And to think Leslie Nielsen almost played Messala

I vote for On The Waterfront

The Bridge on the River Kwai - Great film, and Jack Hawkins and Alec Guinness are two of my favorite actors

Great films including On the Waterfront and The Bridge Over the River Kwai, but I would pick Ben Hur.

Ben Hur. I am still amazed at the chariot race with no CGI. Amazing.

Wow. So many great movies from the 50s. I've seen all of these, and this is a very hard choice. In fact, the only one I didn't like was Around the World in 80 Days. I ended up picking On the Waterfront as my favorite, but it was very tough not to pick From Here to Eternity... or Ben-Hur... or River Kwai... or Greatest Show on Earth... or Marty... etc.

Hi Ator.. (Brings back memories)

The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957). The best of the ten winners. The one that has dated the least. On the Waterfront (1954) is a close second. But Lean's epic takes the gold. At least for me.

It was really tough choosing between Ben Hur and On the Waterfront.

Given On the Waterfront was Marlon Brando's best role (in my opinion), I gave it the edge over a pretty typical role for Heston.

My fave was Bridge on the River Kwai with the caveat that I have never seen Gigi (even though I own it!)

Least fave was An American In Paris - big disappointment as someone who likes Gene Kelly.
