Default Anyone else wondering what Paramount will do with Top Gun: Maverick?

The box office has plenty of time to recover but if it doesn't, do you really think Cruise will allow a streaming option for his movies? After all he's a big supporter of film in theaters......right now its scheduled for 4th of July I think....

Personally I can't see this being a fun movie at home to watch unless you are pretty wealthy and have a 85in TV, latest sound equipment, etc. Thoughts?

They'll just delay again. Think 4th quarter 2021. July is too soon for the pandemic to be over and theaters to go back to 100% occupancy.

4th quarter is to soon too. I mean honestly I don't see this pandemic ending in 2021. So you didn't answer my full question about the digital release, similar to WW84.

OK - yes - they will release it on their new streaming service: Paramount+ some time in the latter half of this year. Happy?

Ahem. Rebranded service: Paramount+, it is currently CBS All-Access.

Paramount could also surprise everyone and release it on Paramount Movie Network which is currently Paramount Network. But then why make Tom Cruise mad when it is safer to delay it.

Unless Paramount can sell it off like Lovebirds and Coming to America 2, it won’t be on subscription video on demand. Paramount also isn’t going to take the loss and offer it on sell/rent VOD like Love and Monsters, Spell, or Spontaneous.

If they can't get it out in July, I'd expect it to be delayed to November, replacing M:I7's current date.

Over Tom Cruise's dead body basically will it go to streaming.

Cruise has the final word on this film.

Um, no. Cruise doesn't own Paramount.

I would say more than even the director and the writer, he is the driving creative force behind this movie.

It is basically actor as auteur. This is more Cruise's film than anyone else's and he gets to decide how it is seen.

I wouldn't be happy with a streaming experience of Top Gun: Maverick.

While the first part is true, he still doesn't actually own the movie. Paramount decides how the movie will be seen.

I find it hard finding threads also, and I have been here since 2007

Yep. Cruise's ego will cause him to fight tooth-and-nail over this, as he's the only aging 80's action star to has yet to have a single movie go direct-to-video/streaming.
