Dead pixels

Just went through 3 TVs from Argos in the last week, 2 Bushes and now a Philips all have dead pixels new from the box. Should I even bother exchanging it again?

There's a tolerance for a few dead pixels here and there. I know my OLED has a few around the edges, but they're only visible if you stand right up to the screen.

But Bush. You get what you pay for there....

Amazon (UK) used to be great for exchanging TVs if there was a legitimate problem with them - I bought a Sony Bravia EX503 from them years ago, and returned 3 of them before getting one without banding. They replaced each one without complaint. The delivery driver thought it was all rather amusing, but was happy to get the work. I ran into him about eight years later, and he reminded me of the situation with the TVs, and then said I was lucky, as not long after that, Amazon had changed some of its policies unconditional free return of large items.

What does that tell us? Not much, but looks like "deeper pockets/shorter arms" syndrome is affecting everywhere.

Back on topis now - aside from my Panny OLED, I also have a Philips PUS6703. which I picked up a few months after launch in 2018. I paid under £400, and aside from a little judder on fast pans, it's a lovely-looking TV. Not a dead pixel in sight - my brother has the same one, and no problems there, either. It looks as though you just got very unlucky with your Philips.

Which maybe means you should research the best TV for your budget before wasting it on one of the worst TV brands? I know what's it like to have no money, so don't assume my "attitude" is all about ££££.

Of what Argos sell, the Hisense range has had some good reviews for budget TVs. Obviously they come with caveats but in terms of what you get for your money, a lot of people really like them.

I'm not surprised about the Bush's, the Philips perhaps you were unlucky there as CompleteCount says. It also depends how tolerant you are - are we talking just a few or loads? Most TVs are going to have some dead or stuck pixels. There's going to be more noticeable on larger screens with lower resolutions.

I sadly stuck with Argos so many returns it’s just a big voucher, can go up to 300. There were 2 dead pixels near the top of each side of the tv.

Why not get a TV from an established brand like LG or Sony?

Just got a LG probably one of the worst of the multiple ones I've gotten in this madness for dead pixels but will try a different model
