Sony Home Entertainment 3D Discussion Thread [No Longer Supporting 3D Blu-ray]

Back in 2010 Sony released the first wave of 3D Blu-Rays. They have wiped out with the latest releases. And replaced them with the newly issued 4K Blu-Rays.

Thankfully we’ve still gotten Venom and Spider-Man Into The Spider-verse (albeit in a very limited number of countries) but these may be the last 3D titles we get from Sony.

The irony is that their very own PSVR will play 3D Blu-rays but they have been actively working on reducing the amount of content available for it, self-sabotage at its worst.

It does appear to be a political decision of some kind as there was a fair demand for Hotel Transylvania 3 on 3D Blu-ray (particularly in Italy and Germany) but Sony actively refused to release it in anything other than flat formats. Bad luck to them. 3D movies flat in 4K? No thanks, I'll pass.

Regardless if there's a 3D version or not, I'll happily take that "flat" 4K.

I wonder though, how are you going to watch movies like HT3 and M: I Fallout at home then if you boycott the 2D 4K or regular Blu-ray?

I'm not going to watch them at home but if I was going to it would be thanks to an illegal download or charity shop purchase. 2D versions of 3D movies are worthless to me.

Should be interesting to read their 2019 front projector line-up print catalog once it's available later this year.

Last year's print catalog devoted two pages, highlighting Sony front projector's 3D capabilities!

But I also see that in all lately released Sony 3D Blu-rays Marvel was involved.

So I`m sceptical by Men in Black

Sony's slip into the Darkside was sad to watch.

They pushed 3D so hard and then ghosted their 3D customers.

I'm really mystified by these stupid companies.

They do all the work to make 3D movies and then refuse to sell them on home video.

I enjoy buying animated movies, but why would I bother to Day One anything in 2D?

department....but did make a killing in SACD "CLASSICAL" !

They launch new products with lofty sales projections and hope they're gonna make zillions and zillions of dollars. When sales inevitably fall short of those lofty goals, they will come up with something new to try and make zillions of dollars. Rinse and repeat, capitalism means it's pretty much inevitable

Watched Spider-Man Homecoming 3D.

Very solid 3D and great PQ overall, also a good movie to boot.

In the open moments, you see the Sony 'glasses on' 3D trailer.

There's a good bit of pop-out in that little loop, I'll miss it...

It is a Marvel movie and it's Spider-Man so there's a strong possibility that the Marvel involvement will yield a 3D BD.

But I think Sony is done releasing 3D Blu-rays for any movie that isn't a co-production with Marvel.

My beef isn't so much the 4K HypeTrain...it's the shameful 3D boycott.

I hate the fact that Studios are strong-arming USA 3D fans and media buyers.

Many people would and could buy 3D and/or 4K, and it would be their choice.

These Studios are ridiculous for only putting 3D movies in theaters and not homes.

Truth is that 4K physical might end up being the next '3D' & be phased out by greedy Studios.

If I recall correctly MEN IN BLACK was initially published by a company called Malibu Comics. Marvel bought out Malibu at a later date.

There isnt really any exciting tv improvements for years

Hdr, oled, 3d all good

Sony at least trying something new with their speakrs behind the screen

But other than big, high end tvs of big cost, i think the cheap or average priced sets se worse now than years ago

Sèe a lot of mid range 4k sets with weaker, darker pictures than mid range 1080p sets from 2012to 2015

Also often lesser build quality, less connections too

But more useless apps and buggy android systems.
